Saturday night in San Diego, Jenrry Mejia’s cranky right elbow flared up in the middle of a good start, the Padres took advantage and beat the Mets 8-2. Mejia had things in control through 3 innings, but in the top of the 4th the bone chips in his elbow that he’s been dealing with made it necessary for him to end his outing. With Mejia out, the Padres jumped all over David Aardsma for 3 runs on 4 hits including a solo home run by Nick Hundley. In the 5th pinch hitter Jesus Guzman make it 5-2 with a single off Aardsma. Mejia gave up his only run in the bottom of the first on a single by Chris Denorfria. The Mets tied it in the third on a rbi single by Daniel Murphy bringing home Eric Young Jr. In the 5th the Ike Davis drove in the Mets second run with an rbi single to left center also scoring Young. The Padres put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 8th on a Jedd Gyorko three run homer off Carlos Torres. Mejia went 3. He allowed 4 hits, the 1 run he walked 1 and struck out 5. Aardsma pitched 2 innings he allowed 6 hits 4 runs (all earned) he walked 2 and struck out 4. He tossed a season high 54 pitches and gets tagged with the loss. He falls to 2-2 on the year. Edinson Volquez started for San Diego and picked up his 9th win. Offensively for the Met s Travis d’Arnaud made his major league debut in the game. He looked solid behind the plate, but at bat went 0 for 2 with two walks. Juan Legares and Eric Young Jr. both had 2 hits apiece in the losing cause. The Mets record falls to 56-65, and 31-33 on the road. Sunday afternoon Matt Harvey (9-3 2.23) looks to clinch the series for the Mets.
