August 18th - Padres 4, Mets 3

Marlon ByrdSunday in San Diego, Will Venable hit a walk off homer as the first batter in the bottom of the 9th inning; the Padres beat the Mets 4-3. Matt Harvey suffered yet another no decision as he hooked up against Met nemesis Eric Stultz.  The Mets got off to fast lead in the top of the first on a triple by Justin Turner and a rbi double by Marlon Byrd.  In the 4th Wilmer Flores made it a 2-nothing  on a sac fly. The Padres got to Harvey to tie the game at 2 in the bottom of the 5th on an rbi infield single by Venable and a sac-fly by Alexi Amarista.  The Mets gave Harvey a chance to be the winner in the top of the 7th when Andrew Brown pinch hitting for Harvey hit a double off the centerfield wall to score Omar Quintanilla with the go ahead run. But, Harvey lost his bid for the win when the Padres tied the game in the bottom of the 8th on a Chris Denorfria infield single.  In that 8th inning Gonzalez German yielded the game tying run, but Pedro Feliciano got the last two outs to keep the game tied until the next inning when Venable hit his 17th homer and second of the series off Feliicano to win it. For the Mets, they suffer their 12th walk off loss of the year.  Harvey went 6 he allowed 6 hits 2 runs (both earned) he walked none and struck out 6. Stoltz went 6 2/3 and allowed 6 hits 3 runs (all earned) he walked 3 and struck out 5. Feliciano takes the loss, he’s now 0-2. Huston Street gained the win.  At the plate for the Mets  Travis d’Arnaud had a carbon copy of his debut, going  0-2 with two walks as he’s still looking for his first major league hit. The Mets are now 56-66 on the year and 31-34 on the road. Monday the Met are in Minnesota to play a makeup game with the Twins.  Dillon Gee (8-8  3.79) goes for the Mets, Kyle Gibson (2-3  6.27) goes for Minnesota. https://www.facebook.com/MetsForum
