Friday night in Phoenix, Paul Goldschmidt hit his 27th home run in the bottom of the 9th inning; the Dbacks walk off against the Mets winning 5-4. The Mets grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 4th against Patrick Corbin on an rbi single by Justin Turner who got the start at shortstop. Jeremy Hefner, despite yielding solid contact against the Dbacks all night long held them scoreless through 4. In the 5th with 2 outs they broke through with back to back to back doubles by Corbin, Adam Eaton and Martin Prado to make it 2-1 Arizona. The Mets wasted no time to tie the game in the top of the 6th on another rbi single by Turner. But in the bottom of the 6th, The Dbacks took up where they left off….really pounding Hefner. They opened the inning with three straight hits. A single, a double and a 2 run double by Will Nieves to make it 4-2 Dbacks……that was all for Hefner. Hef went 5 innings he allowed 8 hits 4 runs (all earned) he walked 3 and struck out 1. The Mets tied the game in the top of the 8th. The Mets loaded the bases on singles by Daniel Murphy, Marlon Byrd and Josh Satin. The Mets ,made it 4-4 on rbi grounders by Justin Turner and Wilmer Flores. The Mets managed 8 hits on the night. They were led by Turner going 2 for 4 with 3 rbi, David Murphy had 2 hits as well. Scott Atchison gets the loss giving up the homer to Goldschmidt. For Atchison it was only the 2nd homer he’s allowed this year. He falls to 2-1. Brad Zeigler gets the win in relief; he improves to 5-1. With the loss the Mets fall to 52-61 on the year and 27-29 on the road. Saturday night Zach Wheeler (4-2 3.91) gets the call for the Mets.
