LAST GAME: The B-Mets finished up a four-game series against Altoona with a 1-0 victory on Thursday night. Darin Gorski threw 7.2 innings and earned his fourth victory of the season with the B-Mets. Rhyne Hughes led the offensive attack with two of the team’s three hits. His RBI single in the bottom of the first inning was the only run scored in the game. The B-Mets went 3-1 in the series.

BINGHAMTON PITCHERS:

RHP Greg Peavey pitches in his third game of the season for the B-Mets. In his last start, he threw six shutout innings in a win against Harrisburg. He did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, and has allowed only four hits in 10.0 innings this season as a B-Met.

RHP Logan Verrett makes his 21st start of the season for the B-Mets. He beat Harrisburg in his last start after allowing two runs in five innings. He is tied with Matt Packer and Casey Sadler for the league lead with 10 wins on the mound.

ERIE PITCHERS:

LHP Matt Crouse pitches in his 27th game of the season with the SeaWolves. In his last start, he earned the win over the New Britain Rock Cats, 9-5. In the win, Crouse allowed five earned runs in five innings. He is tied for the most wins on the team with seven.

RHP Kelvin Perez pitches in his sixth game of the season for Erie. He picked up his first win of the season with Erie in his last start, August 1 against Reading. In that game he threw seven shutout innings and allowed four hits. Perez started 2013 with the Yankee organization, pitching with both Scranton (AAA) and Trenton (AA) this season.

TIME MACHINE: Friday’s game will be resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning with the B-Mets leading Erie, 1-0. Upon completion, all stats will go back to April 10, where the game was originally suspended.

WELCOME BACK, CORY: In four games since rejoining the Binghamton Mets, Cory Vaughn is 6-for-13 with a double, two home runs, and seven RBI. Cory missed 38 games on the disabled list with a right elbow strain, and had not played for the B-Mets since June 2.

HIGH WATER MARK: Thursday’s win put Binghamton at 29 games over .500 (73-44) which matches their high water mark this season. They were also 29 over .500 on August 7, before losing to Altoona. That is the best record Binghamton has had in their 22-year franchise history.

PITCHERS DUEL: Thursday was the first 1-0 victory for Binghamton since August 21, 2012 when Greg Peavey won 1-0 against New Hampshire. The win was Binghamton’s second win this season with three or less hits (May 25 vs. Portland).

 

INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS: Jeff Walters earned his 33rd save of the season on Thursday against Altoona, adding to his franchise record for most saves in a single season. He passed the record held by Jerrod Riggan, who recorded 28 saves in the 2000 season.  The most career saves in Binghamton history is 36, set by Tim Lavigne. Walters is three shy of the record, with 29 games in the regular season left.

RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION: Over their last 15 games, the B-Mets  are hitting .197 (23-117) with runners in scoring position. They are 9-6 during that stretch.

STELLAR PITCHING: Over their last 13 games, the Binghamton pitching staff has posted an impressive 1.15 ERA. The B-Mets are 9-4 during that time. 14 earned runs have scored against Binghamton , and last night was the first time the opponent has scored more than three runs. This season, Binghamton ranks second in the league with a 3.46 ERA.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their series against the Erie Seawolves on Saturday at Jerry Uht Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM as the B-Mets send RHP Noah Syndergaard to the mound to face Erie’s Drew VerHagen.
