The 51’s bull pen, with Greg Burke, Robert Carson and John Church, (S, 1) each pitching 0.2 innings, holds the RedHawks scoreless the rest of the way.

Armando Rodriguez (BS, 1) (L, 1-1) lets the game slip away: 3.0 IP, 6 R, 5 H, (HR) 2 BB, 4 K. I saw Armando pitch for Binghamton last year in Trenton, and he was outstanding. I thought he would be a strong candidate to be brought up and help solidify the Mets pen in 2014. He seems intent on proving me wrong this year.

Rhyne Hughes: 1-4, HR, RBI, R.

Paul Sewald (S, 5) gets a 2 inning save: 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB. After a hugely successful season with Brooklyn last year (1.88 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 35/2 K/BB, 10.99 K/9, 0.63 BB/9) Sewald has picked up where he left off. In 30 appearances with Savannah, Sewald’s ERA is 1.82, WHIP 0.95, K/BB 57/6, 10.40 K/9 and 1.09 BB/9.

DominIck Smith: 2-4, HR, RBI, R.
DSL Orioles2 (27-31) squelch DSL Mets1 (19-39) 6-0 completing yesterday’s suspended game.
Jose Mendez (L, 2-9) started and went 3.0 innings: R, 3 H, BB, 2 K.
Luis Crisostomo, 2-4, had 2 of the Mets 3 hits.
DSL Mets2 (37-23) trip DSL Angels (30-30) 3-1.
Jose Medina started and went 4.0 innings: 0 R, 3 H, BB. Medina is another very young pitcher (he won‘t reach his 17 birthday for 2 weeks) making a name for himself in his pro debut. In 12 starts - 52.0 IP: ERA 0.35, WHIP 0.79, K/BB 41/6, with 0 HR allowed.

What a great two days for Mets pitching prospects.
ReplyDeleteIf Fulmer, Matz, and Ynoa are as good as I think there are, the Mets have a LOT to bargain with over the next few years.
With a stellar rotation of Harvey, Neise, Wheeler, Mejia and Gee staring us in the face . . and Syndergaard and Montero just waiting to bust into it, you are absolutely right. In addition to Fulmer, Matz, and Ynoa, Gorski seems to have rediscovered himself, and Verrett is distinguishing himself too. A bit further away, but valuable chips nonetheless, are Bowman, Lara, and Cessa.
ReplyDeleteOne other guy I have my eye on is Jake Keubler. The Royals gave up on him as a position player and we signed him and converted him to pitching. In his first year on the mound, with Savannah, he has proven to be an extreme ground ball pitcher (4.88 G/F) with excellent control (1.56 BB/9) and an ERA of 2.99, WHIP of 1.08. Look for him down the road, when he leearns how to pitch. LOL
Keubler just went on the DL with a right shoulder impingement
