Chris Schwinden: 8.0 IP, 3 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 6 K.

The fourth Vegas pitcher, Robert Carson, (W, 2-3)blows the save, but gets the win: 1.0 IP, R, H, BB, 2 K.

Thor (aka Noah Syndergaard) has another dominant outing: (W, 6-0) 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K.  The excitement builds in anticipation of Thor’s MLB debut some time in 2014, and the amazing rotation it portends.

Chasen Bradford (1 K) and Jeff Walters (S, 35) (2 K)  both pitched perfect innings in relief.

Blake Forsythe, 1-3, HR, RBI, R, provided all the offense Thor needed..

Ditto Shawn Teufel with 3 deuces: 1.0 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 2 BB.

Kyle Johnson: 1-3, 3B, BB. Johnson, who we got for Collin Cowgill, is hitting .292 with St. Lucie. Normally a high OBP guy, his 10 SB in 32 games for the Lucies make him an ideal leadoff hitter.

Kevin Plawecki: 1-4, 2B.

Savannah (68-50) @ Augusta (70-51) double header postponed (rain).

Brooklyn (28-27) belts Vermont (27-3-0) 6-4.

Starter John Gant (W, 5-2) who went 6.0 innings, was fortunate to get the run support he needed for the win: 4 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 7 K.

Cristian Chivilli followed Gant: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, K.

Johnny Magliozzi (S, 5) is perfect for 2.0 innings with 2 K.  Johnny Magz is beginning to make a name for himself in his 1st pro season. With a WHIP of 0.44, opponents are hitting only .100 against him.

James Roche: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R.

Patrick Biondi: 1-2, 2 BB, RBI, 2 R.

Amed Rosario: 2-4, 2B, RBI, R.

Reliever Waldo Rodriguez (BS, 1) (L, 1-2) was done in by a fielding error resulting in 4 unearned runs: 4.2 IP, 4 R, 0 ER, 3 H, (HR) 0 BB, K.

Gaither Bumgardner pithed a perfect 8th inning to finish off the game.

Wuilmer Becerra: 1-2, BB, RBI, R.

Dominick Smith: 1-4, 2 R.

DSL Tigers (45-20) take two from DSL Mets1 (19-46) 14-1 and 5-3.

  2. "I'm so excited!
    I just can't hide it."

A Mets rotation of Harvey, Niese, Wheeler, Mejia and Syndergaard for the next few years is what Mets fans have been waiting for since 1986. And with so many quality kids in waiting, the future seems secure. Sure, baseball is full of uncertainty, and you never know what might happen to scuttle the future . .but barring unforeseen circumstances, this team should be in contention for years to come.

Now if only Alderson uses some of his pitching bounty to acquire a slugging outfielder, (CarGo? Giancarlo? Bautista?) or just sign one, (Cruz?) we will really be in business. Will Sandy sign an outfielder if it means losing a draft pick?

  3. Sandy knows the team needs hitting and fans aren't going to wait patiently forever.

  4. It's amazing that the Mets are in a position where talents like Gee, Montero, and Fulmer are expendable.

  5. Michael, I'm sure Sandy knows full well that the Mets needs hitting. My fear is that he might be lulled into a false sense of security by the successes of Lagares and Flores, and elect to rely on the likes of Byrd (who he could re-sign on the cheap, relatively speaking) EYJ, Duda, den Dekker, Puello, and even Nieuwenhuis, to provide enough. If Davis comes on strong for the rest of the year, and d'Arnaud shows the pop we all expect, he could conclude that he has enough in the bank to go with what he has. I don't really think he would do that, but I have been heartbroken often enough to worry.

Regarding the pitching, I agree that it is truly amazing that we suddenly are blessed with such bounty. I only hope we are not over rating our prospects. Our farm system was ranked only 16th after the draft. It seems to me we should be much higher, but I am not always objective when it comes to our Mets. In addition to Gee, Montero and Fulmer, (all 3 of whom look like good middle of the rotation starters on a major league team) we have Verrett, deGrom, Lara, Matz, Ynoa, Cessa, and even (don't laugh) Carlos Torres, who seems like a changed pitcher over the past 3 months, and who we have relegated to the pen for now, but who could make a viable starter for someone else.
