Friday night at Citi Field, Zach Wheeler continued his
recent string of domination and Eric Campbell clubbed a 3 run homer, the Mets
snap their 3 game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Cubs. The Cubs got out
to the early led scoring 2 times in the top of the 3rd. Starting pitcher Travis Wood scored on a fielder’s
choice by Anthony Rizzo to make it 1-0, Starlin Castro’s rope up the middle brought
home rookie Javier Baez for the 2nd run. In the bottom of the 4th
David Wright and Lucas Duda drew walks. Then after a pop out by Travis d’Arnaud
Campbell hit a 3 run homer, his 2nd homer on the year to give the
Mets the lead for good. Wheeler went 6 2/3 allowing 4 hits 2 runs (all earned)
he walked 4 and struck out 10. Vic Black
retired the last batter of the 7th, Jeurrys Familia struck out 2 in
a scoreless 8th and Jenrry Mejia notched his 18th save in
the 9th. Wright went 0-3 with
the walk and the run scored ending his 13 game hitting streak as both teams
only managed 4 hits. Wheeler gets the win he’s now 8-8. Wood takes the loss
falling to 7-10. The Mets are now 58-65 on the season and 29-30 at home.
Saturday night is game two of this four game set Jon Niese (6-8 3.46) goes for the Mets, Dan Straily (1-2 4.93) goes for the Cubs.
