Tampa 6 - St. Lucie 2

TAMPA, Fla. (June 5, 2018) – The Tampa Tarpons scored three runs through their first four batters and went on to beat the St. Lucie Mets 6-2 on Tuesday at Steinbrenner Field.

Mets starter Gary Cornish got off to a slow start. He allowed a leadoff walk in the first inning then gave up a RBI single to the third batter, Alex Palma. Brandon Wagner came up next and slugged a two-run homer to put Tampa up 3-0.

Cornish recovered and only gave up one more run, a solo homer to Many Alvarez, the remainder of his outing. He went six innings.

The Mets offense was limited to three hits. Dash Winningham went 2 for 3 with a double. Andres Gimenez had the other hit, a double which was his 13th of the season.

The Mets scored both of their runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 3-2. Gimenez scored from third on a wild pitch and Mike Paez scored on a Winningham single that was bobbled in center field.

The Tarpons would break the game open with a back-to-back RBI hits from Dom Thompson-Williams and Ray Lidge with two outs in the eighth.

Tampa starter Deivi Garcia made his season debut and allowed just two hits and one earned run in 4.2 innings.

Lefty reliever Justin Kamplain tossed 2.1 hitless innings to get the win. Matt Frawley worked two scoreless innings for his second save.
