Mack - 2021
Good morning.
I am writing this as New York City shuts down all bars and restaurants and the Dow Jones opens around 2700 points down.
At the same time, teams like the Mets are releasing their 40-man squad from their spring training facility and are telling them they can go home if they wish.
The news keep getting worse and it is going to get far worse before it gets any better.
We are all trying to figure out when our favorite sports will come back and, at the same time, how all the moving parts will re-align. There is time need to get back in shape, a few spring training games that will be needed to play, a declaration of an abbreviated season to be made, and then... supposedly... play ball?
But how does the draft line up to this? What about the high school players that had their critical senior season shut down on them. Would you as a baseball General Manager now draft them?
Almost same problem with college juniors while seniors have it much worse. Most of their career is totally over now.
What we should do?
My suggestion:
1. Cancel the entire major league baseball season.
2. Grant all college players an additional year of eligibility.
3. Go ahead and sign whatever International youngsters you want, but delay their arrival to their spring facility for at least a year.
4. Delay the baseball draft until June 2021.
5. Grant an additional year of eligibility to all high school seniors. They can return to their school for an additional season even if they graduate sometime this year.
Your thoughts???
Contrary to what most of us believe, there are more important things in life than baseball. Having our sport disappear is painful but survivable. The delays and eligibility you suggest make sense. There's no point in rushing folks back until a cure and effective prevention are developed.
ReplyDeleteGood Qsuestion Mack
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing with this COVID19. It's still being reseacrched and explored in an early on stage. There are no guarantees available as for the cure. The vaccine happening will be great. But only for those people not yet infected with this disease/virus.
So everything now regarding "timeframes and what if's" are merely speculative. Even the expert speculations are open to debate, because nothing as of right now is certain. Some medical experts say that the virus "should be under control" sometime around August of this year. Other medical experts are saying that it could be "years" before this disease/virus culprit has abated enough exposure wise to be considered under control.
It is here to stay it looks like. And there are no easy solutions nor answers for what could happen. On the economic side of this same equation, some experts that I have heard and read have suggested that this could be another "bail out" 2008. It would not surprise me since it has been 12 relatively good years since then.
So everything is pretty much nebulous and uncertain right now. I just hope that it does not kill too many people all around this country and world because it is highly contagious and rapid moving causing severe infections within the human body.
I love baseball and I love the Mets, but this isn't about just sports anymore. It's about life. And quite frankly here, this was the first day that I could find both toilet paper and water.
Study, Study, Study
ReplyDeleteThanks to Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. we now have this wonderful electronic device called the Internet computer. So, why not use it to all our own advantages to solve some of our daily questions and problems. Makes sense.
So I just tried.
We all know that this COVID19 isn't going to probably just go away anytime really soon. Nothing bad ever actually does. Bad things and bad people linger way too long for most are liking.
Recently, I have read that SARS infections can maintain thru the temperature warm-up of spring and maybe even going into summertime. It contradicts what I had early read online last week. I have also read that this particular SARS virus is especially potent (for some reason beyond my comprehension) and that it could take literally years to be resolved in worst case scenario. Oh the joy of that possibility, I know.
A total shutdown of this country (and probably the rest of the world as well since it is now present in every single country worldwide) is obvious now. Very few people will be working in jobs consisting of multiple people interactions and potential exposures.
So I started looking up online potential cures to COVID19. Here is my finding for today.
(A) Gilead Sciences' anti viral drug called Remadesivir.
(B) Japanese flu drug favipiravir (named Avigan).
(C) Chloroquine. Is an antimalaria drug. Used on the 2005 SARS outbreak.
(D) Actemra. Also known as Tocilizumab. Made by Swiss pharma Roche.
So there's four ideas to look up more.
In Addition
There are always the natural supplements. The best I have found here, are these: 1. Green Tea 2. Tincture of Oregano 3. Sage. Each one has properties within that could help with this disease/virus. Plus Daily Vitamins and Vitamin D3, but taken reasonably because a person can overdose themselves with too much D3 and that could make them feel even worse.
My God, I do miss baseball. Such a wonderful escape from reality. Please hurry back!
