Mets Pick    1A-38

LHP  Jared Spencer   Texas

07-01-2003

6-3    195

Bats: L, Throws: L

Spencer was draft-eligible last year at Indiana State but didn’t get selected until Round 14 and didn’t sign. He will go higher this year after transferring to Texas and seeing his stuff bump up across the board. He’s 93-97 as a starter with an upper-80s slider that has a hard horizontal break, as well as a mid-80s changeup, with both pitches at grade 55s. His arm action gets long in back and he can come out under the ball, with high walk rates every year of his college career, including this year, that might push him toward a relief role in the very long term. For now it’s a three-pitch mix in a starter’s build in a true senior who might appeal to teams up top looking to go under slot without sacrificing talent.

  1. The Mets seem to have a very good eye now for talented pictures. They need some fixing. There is one guy whose name is eludes me at the moment who worked 28 guys in 28 and in college in 2023, but so far this year hasn’t walked anybody for the Mets.

  2. I like the idea of drafting pitchers but I also want the payoff
    Peterson is not this regime

Where are the stud starters who are filling in at the 4/5 slots and going to take over as 2/3 slot starters

Where are the stud lights out relievers

We don’t even trade them for absolute stud players

It’s nice in theory but how long do we wait for the pay off

We have no bats produced in the pipelines
    We draft little guys
    We trade for little guys
And even Ryan Clifford is not can’t miss

I was not a sandy fan as drafter or his free agent philosophy

He could trade well at least

  3. I would love to see them draft a high-profile left handed starter

  4. Last time I looked we were one of the best teams in MLB with solid ST and a quality pen. Have at least half a dozen very promising arms in the pipeline. Now, explain to me what some of you are pissed about.
