Tom Brennan: DSL DANDIES; Worrisome Air Pocket? Manaea and Montas are Mortifying

The Two Mets DSL Teams have some HOT offensive players

Fascinating things can happen at every level.

Back in the DSL from injury is Y Rod i.e., bonus baby C Yovanny Rodriguez.

He went deep on Saturday, and is 2 for 4 and a walk so far this season.

His DSL team pitchers on Saturday threw a 4 hitter.

The problem was the 11 walks and a few hit batsmen that they surrendered in the 7 inning game, that led to 10 runs allowed.

Pitching lesson# 1: throw strikes.

Individual DSL stars:

My guy, SS Yorker Semprun, whom I highlighted Saturday AM, showed continued greatness, going 2 for 2 with a walk. His OPS after his first 5 pro tilts is 1.380. BRAVO!

Lest I overlook him, fellow SS Yunior Amparo after 8 games? .500/.550/.875. I’ll take it.

Teammate Marcos Terrero after 6 games? .357/.550/.500. Impressive.

Very early on, but the season starts for Semprun, Amparo, and Terrero are pretty amazing, even if it is DSL ball.

Josmir Reyes on the other DSL squad went 1 for 3, dropping his average to .545, while Elian Peña picked up his first hit of the season (1 for 29).

Josmir Reyes has now been up 34 times in his career without striking out.  That (and his .560/.588/.800 career) is incredibly impressive.

(His name implies a combination of Jose Reyes and “oy vey iz mir”.)

You wonder which of these guys ultimately will be good major leaguers.

The last DSL guy I can remember starting his career out so gaudily was Andres Gimenez in 2016, when after 7 games, he was .429/.500/.750. And he’s done all right since, I’d say.

METS HIT…AN AIR POCKET

Torched all weekend. Outscored 24-9. 0-3. Fret not.

Back in late July through early August 1969, the Mets played Houston 6 times, went 0-6, getting outscored 48-17.

In all 156 other games that year, the Mets went 100-56.

So…fret not over getting razed by the Rays. Just an air pocket. Farts happen.

MANAEA AND MONTAS ARE MORTIFYING

Quick word association:

Manaea? Manure.

Montas? Mt. Mushmore.

Horrible rehab results.

Montas? Age 32.

13.17 ERA, 2.34 WHIP…against MINOR leaguers? What??

Manaea? Age 33.

9.45 ERA, 2.10 WHIP…against lower minors bats? What??

C’mon, you two are needed in Queens. Quit clowning around.

40% of the season is over. Everyone else has admirably covered for you.

You two highly paid guys have ZERO METS INNINGS so far.

Do the right thing, and give Uncle Steve a substantial refund. Or…

Kiss the darned boo-boo and get into the fray.

Lots of games coming up against Atlanta and Philly. And you remain MIA.

Manaea 56 pitches in yesterday’s rehab. Montas 53 on Friday. Ramp it up.

Vacation time is over.

Harsh? Yeah. I guess. I just never got paid $17 million for doing nothing.

TRAVIS JANKOWSKI IS BACK

Just turned 34, he hit .244 in limited MLB at bats this year. He is in Syracuse. Could he replace Acuna when Vientos returns, so LAA can get consistent playing time in AAA?

  1. Perhaps Yorker will someday be a New Yorker

  2. Mets released RP Anthony Gose

    RHP Dylan Ross to AAA

  3. Dylan Ross moving up at startling speed. Gose should sign with the White Sox. He will do great there. All ex-Met rejects who go there or Tampa do.

  4. His name is actually Yorber- spell check did it again.

  5. So, Elian Peña homered in his first at bat today. When he was due to come up again, I saw this: “ Status Change - Delayed: Lightning”. Now, there’s a new one.

  6. Vito here. Vientos and Sproat for Devers? Better deal for Sox?Would you do it?

  7. I would have. Line up more lethal, and if Pete left, Devers at 1B? As long as his attitude would have fit.

    1. Devers refused to play first in Boston. That was part of his problem

  8. Vito that contract pretty rich and awful long for a DH I’d pass
