ANGRY MIKE
2025 SEASON
Jett Williams had an inordinate amount of pressure going into the 2025 season, after spending the majority of 2024 season on the I.L. His breakout professional debut in 2023 had Mets fans excited about adding a dynamic 5-tool talent into the mix after he made it all the way to AA in his first season. Expectations were he would be knocking on the door for an MLB promotion by the 2025 season, but since that was out of the question, regaining his status as a top hitting prospect last season was priority number one.
JETT answered any lingering doubts over his ability to bounce back from a lost season of development by hitting the ground running at Binghamton, posting a .290 batting average and an .862 OPS for the month of April. JETT continued his hot hitting for the remainder of his time with the Rumble Ponies, flashing all 5 tools like he did in 2023, and an improved power stroke that helped him set career highs in homers (17) & doubles (34).
Understandably, Carson Benge was getting all the headlines because of his banger start at Brooklyn, but for me JETT remains the highest upside hitter in the Mets system behind Elian Pena. I fully understand the argument about Benge and remain a huge believer of his upside, but for me the choice is easily still JETT over Benge. JETT checks all the same boxes Benge does, as well as offering more of a stolen base threat, & providing more defensive versatility by being able to play on the infield & outfield.
It’s an interesting debate, but at the end of the day, who cares, both players are exciting young talents, possessing the exact type of skillset that compliments our current nucleus perfectly.
Williams reminds me of a right-handed version of Corbin Carroll, he’s a high energy player, who’ll be a crowd favorite the minute he’s infused into the Mets lineup. He plays the game the right way, has a high baseball I.Q., and plays with a chip on his shoulder, itching to prove the people wrong who underestimated his talent based on his height.
Williams is a winner and the type of lightning rod the Mets need in the clubhouse to help get us to the next level during the 2026 season.

2026 OUTLOOK
Williams will be an important component of the Mets lineup for years to come. I fully expect he’ll make his highly anticipated MLB debut sooner than later in 2026, after he tighten up his approach a smidge in AAA. I’m thrilled to see JETT hitting for more power, which is on par with scouts predicted prior to the 2022 MLB Draft, and as usually disproves what “mainstream prospect experts” whined about ever since being drafted.
Will JETT become a 25-30 homer player like Ozzie Albies or Francisco Lindor? Probably not, but for the Mets sake I truly hope he doesn’t, because his ability to post .400+ OBP’s, walk 85-100 times, and cause havoc on the base paths, is the best way he can add considerable value to the Mets offense.
Williams is a winner and his play-style reflects the type of player the Mets need, which is that of an electric table-setter who can impact the game a number of different ways offensively, as well as provide defensive versatility at a number of positions across the diamond.
Williams represents the first selection indicating a shift in draft strategy, that started targeting players that could develop into table-setters and provide defensive versatility. Several players since Williams selection also fit that mold, but it’s hard for anyone to convince me any of them have a more complete offensive profile than Williams.
Elian Pena has the potential to be a legit thumper who can hit 3rd or 4th in a lineup, and post .300+ BA & 30 HR, but he doesn’t match Williams’ ability to fill up box scores, while as well exhibiting the potential to catch fire and crush 5-6 homers in October.
That’s what makes Williams so valuable to the organization and why I believe he is as close to untouchable as it gets when it comes to the Mets Top Prospects.
Williams adds a new potential dimension to the Mets lineup that has a considerable number of potential 25-30 homer bats at several key positions. If Williams can pair with Benge to add that Corbin Carroll type dynamic to the bottom of the batting order, the Mets will have the most potent offense in the MLB for years to come.
That’s why Jett Williams is a critical component of the “sustainable winner” operating model and he has shown the ability to be an immediate contributor even as he gets accustomed to playing at the MLB level.
“JETT FORCE ONE”
Ready for take-off…

Mike, that was like music to my ears. I would love to fill up my lineup with as many players as I can. Top it off with 2 sluggers and you have my recipe for a great offensive team.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe! I mean what’s the rush -> just develop what we have.
DeleteJett and I got to know each other when I wrote about him. He still is an X follower of mine.
ReplyDeleteI am going to light a candle that he gets off to a great start in ST.
Oh, he’s not playing spring ball on the other side of the field in early March
I am really looking forward to Jet as a Met.
ReplyDeleteSame here -> he’s gonna crack skulls
DeleteCan’t wait. We definitely need the energy & speed
ReplyDeleteMy hopes are that the 1-2 slot in the lineup is some form of Williams and Ewing
ReplyDeleteAnd Benge at 3 and who needs pop?
Mack, if Benge is hitting 3rd...do we trade Soto. Sorry, couldn't resist.
ReplyDeleteOnly for Jose Iglesias -> “we need his aura” -> so I’ve been told 🙄
DeleteNo... just joshing... my lineup some day would be Ewing, Willaims, Lindor, Soto, Clifford, Alvarez, Benge....
DeleteThat would be fun to watch -> all that speed is straight nightmare fuel for pitchers
ReplyDeleteThis is of course as long as they don't get stupid and bet the farm on Skubal.
ReplyDeleteAny chance they see something special in Marco Vargas -> and center the deal around him? He has intangibles you can’t teach…
DeleteI still favor Benge over Jett due to his being several inches taller and his rifle for an arm. Jet May be the best player inch for inch in baseball. I just wish he had more inches.
ReplyDeleteIglesias OMG = Old Man Gone
I would prefer to keep all our young pitching talent, and only trade the better prospect hitters below the top 4: Benge, Jett, Ewing, Clifford
That’s why Jett is gonna be a killer -> he’s been hearing that from scouts for the longest time. They even tell his Dad.
ReplyDeleteThat’s why I tell everyone I’m 6’6
ReplyDeleteBut I get why people favor Benge -> it’s a great problem to have though.
Better than debating over Terrence Long vs Lastings Milledge lol 🙄
