DEEP DIVE  -  LHP ANDERSON SEVERINO – RHP ROBERY STOCK – OF JOSE RAMOS

 ANDERSON SEVERINO

LHRP      turns 32 in April      5-10      190      DR      IFA 2014 (NYY)

2025 -    Monclova/MEX       42-apps   3-1   2.68    1.30    37-IP    46-K    11-BB

                Licey/DOWL            13-apps   0-0   2.25    1.25     8-IP     11-K      2-BB

Severino is a former Yankees international signee (2013) and White Sox MLB call-up (2022, 6 appearances, 7.1 IP, 6.17 ERA).

Chronic control issues (career 6.4 BB/9, including 10 BB/9 in Triple-A).

Severino's arsenal is straightforward and lefty-optimized, emphasizing velocity and break to generate strikeouts (11+ K/9 career).

2022-2024 MLB/minors - threw 628 tracked pitches, relying on a three-pitch mix as a reliever.

High fastball-slider combo for whiffs, with changeup for deception vs. righties.

As a lefty, his slider plays well to both sides, but walks stem from over-aggression.

Four-Seam Fastball

55%

Straight with slight arm-side run (4-6 inches), elevated for chases; spin ~2,100 RPM

.320 (solid whiff rate, 25%)

Slider

35%

Sharp glove-side break (8-10 inches horizontal, 2-3 inches vertical drop), late tilt for lefties

.280 (elite vs. RHB, 30%+ swstr)

Changeup

10%

Mild fade away from RHB (6-8 inches arm-side), depth for tunneling off fastball

.310 (used sparingly; better in 2025 per LMB reports)

Strengths:

Slider is his "plus" pitch—wipes out righties (35% K-rate in 2022 MLB). Fastball has sneaky carry for a lefty, aiding elevation. In 2025 LMB, the mix yielded a 11.2 K/9, showing improved sequencing.

Weaknesses:

Command woes inflate walks (e.g., 4 BB in 7.1 MLB IP); fastball can flatten if down in counts. No curve or cutter; arsenal lacks depth for starters (he's relieved since 2017).

MACK –

Destined to start off in AAA-Syracuse, but my guess is, if they can lab this guy to death, he could wind up the replacement lefty in the Mets bullpen, filling the hole left with the departing Brooks Raley.

ROBERT STOCK

LHRP      36/years old            6-1      260      2009 - 2nd rd. USC

MLB CAREER  -  -0.5-WAR    2-4      4.90

         2025 -        -0.1-WAR    0-0     10.13

2025 –

Worcester/AAA -   19-G    15-ST     5-4    3.92    1.33     85-IP     96-K    36-BB

 Aquilas/DOWL  -    2-ST    0-0    10.13    2.44    5.1-IP    11-K    6-BB

Has for teams including the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies.

Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round (67th overall) of the 2009 MLB Draft out of the University of Southern California.

Stock's pitching arsenal emphasizes command and deception over velocity, with a focus on sink and movement.

Pitch Type

Velocity (mph)

Usage (%)

Description/Key Traits

Cutter

89

~40%

Primary pitch; late glove-side cut to jam right-handers; generates weak contact.

Sinker

94

~30%

Heavy arm-side run and sink; tops out at 95 mph; elite ground-ball inducer (50%+ GB rate).

Slider

81

~15%

Horizontal sweep with depth; used against opposite-hand hitters for chase.

Four-Seam Fastball

95

~10%

Straight fastball for elevation; occasional up-in-zone heat but not dominant.

Changeup

78

~5%

Plus offering from college days; arm-side fade and tumble; effective vs. lefties.

Stock occasionally deploys a curveball (81 mph, ~1% usage) for vertical break and a splitter (68 mph, <1%) as a chase pitch, but these are situational and not core to his mix.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Plus command (career BB% under 8%) and ground-ball tendencies make him bullpen-stabilizing, but home run vulnerability (1.2 HR/9) arises from hanging cutters/sliders.

MACK –

I have no idea why Stock was signed. AAAA reliever at best.

MACK –

IMO, this is a nice AAA fill-in that, with a little more effort, could be a major league UTOFer someday.
