Tom Brennan - What An Abundance of Right Handed Prospect Pitching in Metsville

Prospect Brendan Girton is one stud righty pitching prospect out of many.

Technically, Messrs. McLean, Sproat, and Tong are still rookies.

Three really terrific rookie righties.  Amazing rookie righties.

Mets fans are blessed.

But then you start to rattle off the rest of the righty pitching prospects:

4) Will Watson

5) Jack Wennninger

6) Brendan Girton

7) RJ Gordon

8) Dylan Ross

9) Ryan Lambert

10) Doug Orellana

And even more.

And leaving the 2025 draft righties out altogether.  Most likely, one or more of those righty pitchers will surge, too.

Maybe you can remember a more pitching-rich set of Mets prospects.

I sure can't.

Can you?

  1. No

This is the deepest the Mets have ever been in rhp prospects

    To me

    McLean is past this now

    My #1 is Tong

    #2 is Ross

  2. Mack, you were a Bob Dylan fan, and now it is Dylan Ross. Nice.

Honestly, if all the pitchers on the major league level were to suddenly disappear, other than the “rookie trio” of McLean, Tong, and Sproat, you could make yourself a pretty interesting pitching staff out of the righty prospects I noted and a few prospect lefties, too. Would there be blow out games? Sure. But I bet an all-rookie Mets pitching rotation could pull off a 5.00 ERA or better in 2026. 5.50 in the 2026 first half, 4.50 in the second half.

  3. I think that is why we are avoiding signing players with qualifying offers to save our picks and International cash. This is our strength now and we know it. Extremely solid farm we have developed.

    1. Rene, agreed. Pitching prospects are A+, hitting prospects are B or B+.

n my mind, I just saw Alonso, McNeil, Nimmo, and Diaz singing a parody of Billy Joel’s “I Don’t Want To Be Alone Anymore “ called I don’t want to be a Met anymore.

  5. My guess is Stearns is still trying to clear dead money, this time vet 30+ SPs

  6. Mack, at this point the only dead money left is Manaea. We would have to eat at least half to get rid of him. I would say Senga but at 15m that's pretty manageable.

  7. Joe, Manaea was hurt. Let’s em see how he comes back this year.

Tom, where would you place the lefties within that list: Lavender, Santucci, and Thornton?

    1. Gus, Santucci would be 4th, behind only the 3 rookies that are currently NY Mets. I think he is the best of the not-yet-promoted prospect pitchers. Being a lefty gives him the edge. I’d slot Thornton in at #7 of the 13, not higher until he proves durability. Lavender would be #12 of the 13, because of his relatively lower velocity.

    2. I agree with you on Manaea. He might bring much more value at the trade deadline, when other arms are fully seasoned to effectively replace him.

  8. The Mets have put themselves is a position where they have optionality now. This is huge. Given that they can afford to pay $320-350M they can hold onto assets that may bounce back (while th youth continues to develop) & either: leverage strong bounce-back years during 2026 season, move recovered players mid-season for better returns to open up space for ready-now talent, or cut them & eat salary if they don’t bounce back. They don’t need to sell low on everyone.

I suspect that is what they will do with Senga , Manaea, Peterson, maybe Vientos, Mauricio, Acuna too.

    Of course, t
If they can package some of this talent & maybe some MiLB chips for a young, controllable pitcher or outfielder, they have that option as well.

They are now well positioned for the remainder of the offseason & can make the moves. They want to make.

  9. Staying with the Billy Joel theme Stearns came in and said "I didn't Start the Fire" and took a wrecking ball to the team. I also think he was an "Angry Young man" as those players he jettisoned weren't his. Now the big question is will Lindy go? Problem with that is Cohen wife the "Uptown Girl" is tight with the Lindor clan so if he goes that would say alot about who has the real power here because of course "It's a matter of Trust". Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

  10. Gary, you’ll have to decide…a bottle of red or a bottle of white…it all depends upon your appetite. I’m seeing red so far this off season.
