Gloom and doom are in the air, everywhere, in Metsville.
I think much of that doom and gloom fails to disperse because of the critical injuries to Francisco Lindor, Francisco Ouch-verez, and Clay Holmes.
I think the other long-term injuries have been manageable, but those three? Ouch!
Yet, the Mets are 10–5 in May.
So much gloom abounds, and the team is 10–5 in May.
Tyrone Taylor, hitting just a buck-something, crushes a 2 out, 3 run game-tying BOMB in the 9th and the Mets win it 7-6 in the 10th.
Crazy.
Maybe the kids (Benge, Ewing, and soon Wenninger) can keep this tug boat running. Humming, even.
Imagine if somehow, someway, the Mets are in contention in July.
Not for the division, but for a wild card.
And then, what would the three acquisitions be at the trade deadline?
Answer: Lindor, Alvarez, and the clay man.
That would be pretty remarkable.
The Mets now play a mediocre, but not bad, Washington Nats team next.
The Mets, they just gotta keep going 10-5 every 15 games.
How hard can that be? I mean, come on really?
A piece of cake, if you ask me.
Meanwhile, a brief minor league report:
Jacob Reimer, who has been off to an absolutely miserable RBI start, seemed to wake up yesterday, with a three for three day with a walk and four RBIs. Let’s hope he goes on a tear.
At the risk of beating a dead horse, they are finally playing in comfortable weather in Binghamton. Bats thaw out.
Brooklyn (10-28), meanwhile, lost again, on four hits.
Through 38 games, they are hitting .180, which is the worst thing I have ever seen from a Mets minor league team offensively. Each day that they compile three or four hits is going to make it tougher for them to reach the .200 mark before the end of the season.
But heck, maybe they too go 10-5 in their next 15 games.
How hard can that be, really? They already know how to win 10 games.

Baby Steps
ReplyDeleteLove the new spark brought by Benge, Ewing, Baty, and Vientos
First goal... get to .500 by ASB
Well, they are now only 6 games under .500, and the ASB is 8 weeks in the distance, so that is certainly achievable if they play well.
DeleteTom, dont other teams play in cold weather? Why are we only seeing the Binghamton cold?
ReplyDeleteGus, that whole league doesn’t hit particularly well. But part of it is the fences in Binghamton too. You had cold weather coupled with crappy Power dimensions and it’s a mix for offensive mediocrity at Best. Of course the minor leagues as a whole would take a hit since Ewing Benge Mauricio and Jett Williams are all no longer around to prop up the poor hitting in the Mets minors.
DeleteBrooklyn? The teams that played down in the Carolinas in that league hit well each and every year. Warmer weather probably friendlier Parks too. The Brooklyn Park is a horror show. Of course horror shows can be fixed. Perhaps the right field fence has to be moved in by 15 feet.
Is it possible that AJ Ewing is the next Pete Rose? He’s been nothing short of sensational since the beginning of 2025.
ReplyDeleteBenge and AJ Ewing have brought in a lot of energy as it was predicted by many here. Baty at his natural 3B has been able to relax and produce. Vientos has taken to 1B and now looks like the 1B of now and the future.
ReplyDeleteAdd Soto in left and you have 5 positions covered
DeleteBo Bichette and his hit switch should be turned on any day now, and that makes six positions.
DeleteAnd then of course you have Mauricio as the 7th, who should go on a tear any day now. Oh that’s right I forgot the dope dove into the bag and broke his hand on a bag that all you had to do was graze in order to be safe or out, and whereas prudence would’ve dictated that he not dive headfirst into first base at all when he had just been given Lindor‘s job miraculously. Some people just do stupid things.
It’s kind of like going on American Idol while you’re on public TV and cursing out Simon Cowell. About that smart. Maybe less.
Despite the fact that the once-coveted Luisangel Acuna is hitting .179 for the White Sox, they somehow are 24-22. If the can be 24-22, what about the Mets?
ReplyDeleteThe stats for Alonso and Vientos are very similar.
