He has couple of diff FBs he throws, a hammer curve (I still have visions of when he struck out Ryan Howard on that pitch - it looked like Doc's hammer!), plus an off-speed. That's plenty arsenal to get big league hitters out if he can command those pitches. He can work on command and get innings in at Bufalo. Wheeler/Mejia are the better of the Mets' big4 prospects and they could be a very good 1/2 in the future.

I know the MLB club needs bul pen help, but to bring up Mejia in that role now is almost as stupid as what Jerry/Omar did.

Also, why exactly is he better suited for he pen because he's coming back from TJ surgery? The Nats i'm sure never considered Strassburg in a RP role just because of his TJ surgery.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-38330725038405960662012-06-09T18:48:38.062-04:002012-06-09T18:48:38.062-04:00And, to a point Stephen has made, I believe that, ...And, to a point Stephen has made, I believe that, long-term, Mejia SHOULD at least get a chance to start, as his stuff warrants that. I don't believe the whole "too short" crap- let him get healthy, stretch his arm out, and be posed for a 2013 chance in the rotation!!!David Rubinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06928501758304825373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-66696463699000813452012-06-09T18:16:21.407-04:002012-06-09T18:16:21.407-04:00David has it right.

I want Ramirez to stay, but he looked so shaky that, combined with the fact that we still don't know what to expect from Young (and still don't know if Johan's hangover from the no-no will continue) means that Hefner's ability to step in as both a very long reliever or spot-starter makes him very valuable still to the team.David Rubinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06928501758304825373noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-92060043556515331402012-06-09T17:35:31.281-04:002012-06-09T17:35:31.281-04:00Good analysis of what I believe is an interesting ...Good analysis of what I believe is an interesting decision for them to make. He's actually starting for Buffalo tonight, so it might have to wait a few days before he gets promoted if thats he plan.

I think Hefner should be the guy that goes down and not El'. Think about the slots we put him in to pitch. Nothing like throwing him into the fire, sheesh.

We def need more reliable bullpen arms, so that very well could and should br Mejia's land place for the remainder of this yea and promise him a shot as a starter out of st next year. He needs a changeup and he could be a great starting pitcher in my opinion.

TheCloserAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
