Outside of that, knowing how to manage your bullpen, how to mix veterans and rookies together might be nice too. The current manager is very good at the first bit, pretty awful at the second and all of a sudden really not very good at the third. Id almost say he is getting worse at all three facets.

Next years team should be a mostly young team with some former all stars as the veterans, lets hope they can find a manager who can handle the pressure, the clubhouse and the game bit too. whomeever that may be.

Alex cora actually sounds like a great candidate too. Thanks for your take.

My biggest problem with Collins is (as Reese noted) overusing his pen arms (I agree Reed had no business in the game last night), and I also have an issue with his overusing his marginal vets like Reyes. TJ Rivera could have (and probably should have) started in Reyes' place.

But it is not Collins' fault the team has a 5+ ERA, unless one feels he could have held back on certain aching pitchers to keep them from further hurting themselves. That is speculation.

Tom Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01032383157195393857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-86078929086086604122017-06-24T11:27:32.325-04:002017-06-24T11:27:32.325-04:00Loser is nit an opinion, it is a fact backed up by...Loser is nit an opinion, it is a fact backed up by statistics. Look up his record. The opinions based upon observation are his burning of the bullpen, his preference for veterans and his lack of fundamental strategies. If you want to argue this points, you may do so. However he has a career losing record. I like you research on some of those candidates (although you did neglect some of the internal candidates in the minors) what I have a serious objection to is your characterization of Terry Collins as a "loser" and one who doesn't motivate his players to perform to their abilities. While I do have issues with his handling of the bullpen, the bottom line is the players play hard under Collins. Irresponsible and gratuitous shots at him are unnecessary and they devalue the legitimacy of some of the more salient aspects of your article.holmernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-60434238320639887912017-06-24T10:09:18.078-04:002017-06-24T10:09:18.078-04:00Speaking of ABC, was there a reason the Skipper wa...Speaking of ABC, was there a reason the Skipper wasted his closer with a 7 run lead in the 9th?Reese Kaplanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12993445356545875409noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-64557719240806111772017-06-24T09:59:21.730-04:002017-06-24T09:59:21.730-04:00I can't imagine that Cabrera helped his trade ...I can't imagine that Cabrera helped his trade value by tying his desire to get his option picked up to his willingness to move to 2B. Hard to believe that a contender would want him as SS. Whatever value he has at this point is likely related to the idea that he could play anywhere around the infield if needed. If they can't trade him, he'll end up in the bench (well, with Collins still in charge, you never know about that, I guess) which isn't exactly going to help his free agent value, and, ny extension, his family. Good move Asdrubal.

On the manager front, I like the idea of Wright at the helm for the specific reason that barring a total disaster, he'd be virtually un-fireable for at least a couple of years, maybe three, meaning that unlike. It's of the other "happy to be here" managerial candidates, he'd be free to ignore FO directives and do what he damn pleases. I'd sign up for that right now. That Adam Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05687771146317665283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-592615130369356022.post-33957098297686283512017-06-24T09:41:57.708-04:002017-06-24T09:41:57.708-04:00I 'm so relieved that Cabrera is doing this &q...I 'm so relieved that Cabrera is doing this "because it's best for himself and his family". Aren't we so blessed to have him on our team and wouldn't it be nice if just once a player would come out and say "I really suck this season and want to thank management for not kicking me out the door".
