Chase Meggers is a left-handed batting, right-handed throwing catcher (who also plays some first base) in the New York Mets’ minor league system. He is currently with the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones (South Atlantic League affiliate) after being promoted from the Single-A St. Lucie Mets in late July 2026. Background

His father, Mike Meggers, was a longtime minor league outfielder who played in the systems of the Mets, Cubs, Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Reds (and in independent/Mexican leagues), after a standout NAIA career. College Career (Oregon)Meggers played primarily as a catcher (with some outfield/DH time). Career college line: .282/.349/.408 (.757 OPS) over 82 games (60 starts), with 6 home runs, 44 RBI, and 44 runs scored.

  • 2024 (breakout year, redshirt sophomore): Honorable Mention All-Pac-12. Led the team in average at .316/.395/.480 (.875 OPS) in 46 games (38 starts). He hit 5 HR with 33 RBI and 32 runs. He also saw time as a leadoff hitter at points.
  • 2025 (junior): Missed the first 16 games with a broken finger. Played in 33 games (22 starts), hitting .245/.290/.316 with 1 HR and 11 RBI.
He went undrafted in the 2025 MLB Draft and signed with the Mets as a free agent on July 21, 2025. Professional Career (Mets organization)Assigned to St. Lucie (Single-A Florida State League) after signing.

  • 2025 (St. Lucie, 19 games): .276/.382/.328 (.710 OPS), 0 HR, 6 RBI, 5 SB.
  • 2026 (St. Lucie, ~69 games before promotion): .235/.313/.319 (.632 OPS), 2 HR, 35 RBI, 3 SB in 238 AB. Career MiLB: roughly .243 AVG with 2 HR and 8 SB in limited action.
He was named St. Lucie Mets Player of the Month for June 2026. He has also caught notable games, including a combined no-hitter. Promoted to Brooklyn Cyclones (High-A) on July 28, 2026; recent highlights include multi-hit games and RBI contributions there. 

Meggers is a developmental depth catcher/first baseman known for contact ability from the left side, solid on-base skills in college, and defensive versatility. He is still early in his pro career and not currently a top prospect, but he has shown enough to earn a midseason promotion within the Mets system.

      No…but IMO he has a chance to briefly be a major leaguer. As a lefty hitting catcher. The hit tool must get better. Will he be as good as another former lefty hitting catcher, Johnny Monell? Time will tell. Johnny was a good hitting minors catcher who hit the major league wall.

    let's see what he does in AA. Mid-200's batting average at A+ doesn't scream prospect to me.

    I will be thrilled if Meggers become the lead dog AAAA catcher into the next decade
