B-Mets 4, Trenton 3

Binghamton took advantage of three errors and got timely pitching from pitchers Julio De La Cruz and Roy Merritt to beat Trenton 4-3.

The game was tied at three after six innings when Binghamton (2-1) came to the plate in the seventh. LHP Wilkins Arias, pitching for the second straight day, walked the leadoff man Emmanuel Garcia. B-Mets 2B Ruben Tejada proceeded to bunt Garcia to second. The next hitter, Josh Thole, was hit by an Arias offering, setting the stage for Shawn Bowman. Bowman dropped a bloop single in right field that Garcia came around to score on giving Binghamton the lead for good.

Merritt recorded his second save by throwing a scoreless ninth, but it was not without turmoil. Merritt hit the leadoff hitter, Chris Malec, and walked Kyle Anson to put two runners on with one out. However, Merritt got the final two hitters, James Cooper and Eduardo Nunez, on flyouts to record his second save.

The B-Mets got on the scoreboard in the first inning plating two runs against Trenton (1-2) starter Zach McAllister who struggled with his command in the ballgame, hitting three batters. Runs scored on Lucas Duda’s bases-loaded walk and Matt Bouchard’s sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Binghamton tallied again when Thole doubled to open the inning and was driven home on a one-out Duda single. Duda went 1-3 in the game with 2 walks and 2 RBI.

Trenton scored runs in three consecutive innings from the fourth through the sixth against B-Met starter Jose Sanchez. Sanchez notched the win with a quality start throwing six innings and allowing three runs. McAllister threw five innings for Trenton giving up three runs, of which only one was earned.
