Minor League Weekly Recap

Week Recap – ending 4-12-09:

Bisons:

Team Leaders: CF Cory Sullivan - .300/.300/.400/.700, DH Fernando Martinez - .833 OPS, SP Nelson Figueroa – 7.0 IP, 0.00, 0.57, RP Connor Robertson – 2 appearances, 3.0 IP, 0.67 WHIP.

Ouch: Just about anyone with a bat on their shoulder. 1B Nick Evans - .000

No bats. Only 4 runs scored all week long. Martinez expected to get back in the field next week, and Jon Niese can’t wait to get his ERA (22.50) below double digits. Watch for some early promotions from Binghamton if someone doesn’t start hitting soon. If Figgy throws a couple more gems like this one, he may be passing Ollie in the airport lobby soon.

B-Mets:

Team Leaders: CF Emmanuel Garcia – 375/.412/.438/.849, RP Roy Merritt – 2 G, 2.0 IP, 2 S, 0.00, 0.50, RP Eric Brown – 0.00, 0.50.

Ouch: OF Caleb Stewart - .182, OF D.J. Wabick - .100, SP Mike Antonini - 5.79

Decent start, especially for Garcia, who has moved to the outfield in hopes of raising some trade eyebrows. Merritt seems unfazed from bumping to AA. The Mets are hoping that Brown can become their future long reliever. Still can’t figure out how Matt Bouchard made the AA level this year.

Lucy:

Team Leaders: OF Carlos Guzman - .667 BA… RP Emary Frederick – 3.0 IP, 0.00, 0.33…

Ouch: SP Brad Holt – 22.09 ERA… 1B Ike Davis - .167… C Francesco Pena - .200

Excellent start, err... relief… by Frederick, who needs a big year to get back on track… Emary has always been one of the organizational K/IP leaders, even when his ERA was up. Yes, that’s Guzman’s batting average, not his OPS. SS Reese Havens (.273) is showing signs of hitting at this level, but the Mets still await something positive from Davis. I know it’s early, but how many levels does Pena have to not hit to prove his bonus was a mistake?

Gnats:

Team Leaders: SP Elvin Ramirez (0.00), RP Jeff Kaplan (0.00), 2B Josh Satin - .444/.455/.444/.899

Ouch: OF Rafael Hernandez .083

Everybody was ready for the big bats, but no one expected this kind of excellent starting pitching… of cource, all they had to do was read the Mack’s prospect list, and they would have known about Familia and Schwinden. Team gave up only one earned run in first 30 innings. Big bonus was 5 excellent innings by Kaplan in Saturday night’s game. Jeff came up a starter, lost his rotational spot last year, and turned it around in the pen.
