THE SEASON SO FAR: The Mets are off to a 5-4 start, currently tied with Portland for third place in the Northern Division, one game behind co-leaders Trenton and New Hampshire.

WHO'S HOT: C Josh Thole leads the team with a .367 batting average (11-for-30) that includes four doubles, five runs scored and two RBIs. ... LHP Adam Bostick is off to a good start, going 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA over his first three appearances. In seven innings of work, he has given up just one earned run and struck out eight while issuing only one walk.

WHO'S NOT: RHP Dylan Owen, the Mets' No. 28 prospect, struggled in his Double-A debut Friday, allowing six runs in three innings in an 8-4 loss visiting Portland.

HE SAID IT: "I felt like I was falling off the mound to my left," Owen told the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin. "I think they may have been able to see more of the ball because of that and could tell what was coming. That, and I was leaving the ball up in the zone."

DID YOU KNOW: Former Trenton and New Hampshire manager Bill Masse returns the league again this season, this time as B-Mets hitting coach.

The B-Mets, who have won two in a row, scored all of their fourth-inning runs following a 10-minute delay in which Trenton starter Eric Hacker asked the umpires to have the B-Mets' grounds crew to work on the pitcher's mound. "Our offense came alive," B-Mets manager Mako Oliveras said. "Their guy seemed to have trouble with the mound, and we were able to capitalize." Trenton took a 3-1 lead off B-Mets starter Mike Antonini (2-0) in the second inning. Yankees catching prospect Francisco Cervelli hit a two-run home run to left field, and Chris Malec added an RBI double. In the fourth, the B-Mets' first three batters reached base. With the count 1-1 to Shawn Bowman, Hacker stepped off the mound, and Trenton manager Tony Franklin and several members of the Trenton staff came to the mound

Gnats:

Jeurys Familia (2-0) worked six innings while Savannah collected 11 hits en route to a, 4-2, win over the visiting Rome Braves at Historic Grayson Stadium Wednesday night. Familia worked six innings and allowed just one run on two hits. The Sand Gnats were able to hang a three spot on the Rome Braves in the third when singles from Jordany Valdespin, Rafael Fernandez and Wilmer Flores plated the first run. Groundouts by Sean Ratliff and Eric Campbell drove in two more and Savannah never looked back. Savannah (9-4) would add on a run in the fourth when Juan Lagares came around to score on a multi-error play by the right fielder Luis Sumoza. He misplayed the ball in the field and then threw it off line, allowing Lagares to score on a single by Valdespin. Familia becomes is the fourth Gnat to throw six innings this season. Elvin Ramirez has gone six innings twice while Chris Schwinden has done it once. Jimmy Johnson chipped in two scoreless frames while Erik Turgeon pitched the ninth for his second save of the homestand. Valdespin, Campbell, Wilmer Flores and Josh Satin all had two hits apiece while Fernandez extended his hitting streak to eight games by going 1-for-4. Paul Clemens (0-2) gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in four innings to suffer the loss for Rome.
