B-Mets Game Notes

LAST GAME:

The B-Mets made a bullpen start last night at
New Hampshire and almost escaped with a win, falling 5-4 on
a walk-off RBI double from Fisher Cats’ designated hitter Brian
Dopirak. Nick Abel made the start for Binghamton and went
3.1 innings giving up three runs. He was followed by Edgar
Alfronzo, Julio De La Cruz and Stephen Clyne on the hill. Facing
Major League rehabber Ricky Romero, who walked five
men in 5.1 innings, the B-Mets plated two runs in the fourth
inning on a Josh Thole RBI single, who later scored the second
run on a wild pitch to tie the game at two. After New Hampshire
took a 4-2 lead, the B-Mets battled back with two runs in
the eighth inning on RBI singles from Josh Petersen and
Shawn Bowman to tie it at four. Bubbie Buzachero notched
the win for the Fisher Cats throwing 1.2 innings in relief. Julio
De La Cruz was hung with the walk thanks to walking the
leadoff man in the ninth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:

RHP Dylan Owen will make
his team-leading seventh start of the season tomorrow in the
opener of the five-game homestand with Trenton. Owen’s last
start came against the Thunder who touched him up for five
runs in six innings to take the loss, all five runs were unearned
however. This is Owen’s fourth start of the season against
Trenton. He is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings against the
Thunder with 10 walks. For the year, he is 0-3 with a 5.34 ERA
in 30.1 innings. He was the Mets’ 20th round selection in
2007 out of Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.
LHP Wilkin De La Rosa will make his second straight start
against the B-Mets. On May 8 in De La Rosa’s first AA start, he
threw six scoreless innings against Binghamton at Waterfront
Park, striking out nine and surrendering only five hits in the
Thunder’s 9-2 win. He began the year in a Tampa Yankees
uniform (High-A) where he made three starts with a 1.29 ERA
in 14 innings. De La Rosa converted to the pitchers mound
after five seasons as an outfielder in 2007. He was signed as
a 16-year old out of the Dominican Republic.

BLISTERING BOWMAN:

Shawn Bowman lined a broken-bat
RBI single to left field in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s
game at New Hampshire to extend his hitting streak to a team
-best 11 games. During the stretch, Bowman is hitting .432
(19-44). It is currently the longest hitting streak in the Eastern
League.

ON-BASE WITH MALO:

With a single in the eighth inning, Jonathan
Malo extended his on-base streak to 17 games (.382
OBP) dating back to September 1 of last season. He has
reached base in all 16 games he has played with the B-Mets
since coming down from Buffalo (AAA) April 28.
