Lexington 2, Savannah 1

The Savannah Sand Gnats found themselves on the wrong side of a pitcher’s duel as they dropped a, 2-1, decision to the visiting Lexington Legends at Historic Grayson Stadium on Memorial Day. The Gnats could not muster a hit off Lexington starter Brad Dydalewicz (3-0) until the fifth inning when Wilmer Flores knocked a leadoff single through the left side. It would be the only hit the Spicewood, Texas native would allow in his five innings of work in just his second start back from the disabled list. Savannah starter Elvin Ramirez (2-3) matched Dydalewicz through the first four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth inning. Brian Pellegrini continued his hot hitting versus the Sand Gnats hurlers as he slapped a two-out, two-run double to the left field corner to give the Legends the 2-0 lead. Down by two in the seventh, the Gnats put a rally together when Eric Campbell singled and stole second on a delayed steal. After a Wilmer Flores singled moved Campbell to third, a wild pitch by Michael Hacker allowed Campbell to score and bring Savannah within a run. Jordany Valdespin walked and Juan Lagares singled with one away in the eighth to put the tying and go-ahead runners on for Savannah. After Josh Satin flew out to move Valdespin to third, Hacker walked Campbell to load the bases. Sean Ratliff, who went 0-for-4, struck out to end the threat and the inning. Manny Olivares and Rhiner Cruz threw two hitless innings apiece to keep Savannah close in the late innings.
