Savannah 3, Lexington 2

A throwing error by Jorge de Leon allowed Kai Gronauer to score the go-ahead run in the ninth for Savannah as they came from behind for a, 3-2, win over the Lexington Legends in front of 6,128 at Applebee’s Park. Josh Stinson (1-1) picked up the win in relief for the Sand Gnats (20-15).

With one down in the ninth, Gronauer hit a double just inside the left-field line to place the winning run in scoring position. Luis Alen pinch hit for Jose Jimenez with Gronauer on second but was struck out by Henry Villar (0-1) for the second out of the inning. Jefry Marte swung at the first pitch he saw from Villar and hit a routine ground ball to de Leon at short but he threw the ball into the stands behind first. Gronauer was awarded home on the errant throw and the Gnats led it, 3-2.

Stinson, who worked three innings, struck out three in the ninth to close it down.

Robert Carson pitched well again for Savannah but did not factor in the decision. The lefty turned in a quality start against the Legends as he permitted just two runs on three hits in six innings.

The Gnats trailed for a majority of the game and did not tie it until there were two out in the sixth when Raul Reyes hit a broken-bat single into center field to drive in Josh Satin and Sean Ratliff. Ratliff, Reyes and Gronauer each had two hits in the win for the Sand Gnats.

Legends starter Robert Bono also pitched well as he allowed two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings on the mound.
