Bisons Notes

TODAY’S GAME:

Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights in the first game of a four-game series from Knights Stadium (7:15 p.m.). Tonight’s game will also open up an eight-game roadtrip for the Herd, as they will travel to Gwinnett, June 23-26. The Bisons are coming off back-to-back rainouts against the Syracuse Chiefs in Buffalo, June 17-18. vs.

THE KNIGHTS:

Tonight’s game is the first match-up between the Bisons and Charlotte this season. Buffalo won the season series last year, 5-3. However, the Knights hold a 45-43 edge over the Bisons since Buffalo rejoined the International League in 1998. The only other team in the IL that has a winning record against the Bisons in that time frame is Lehigh Valley (10-13).

TRIPLE-A DEBUT:

RHP Tobi Stoner will make his Triple-A debut with his start tonight. The 24-year old was 2-2 with a 2.86ERA in seven starts with Binghamton (AA). In his last start with the B-Mets, Stoner threw a 7.0-inning complete-game two-hit shutout to beat Trenton on Saturday, June 13.

DONE LIKE DESSENS:

RHP Elmer Dessens has collected six saves this month. The veteran has converted 11 straight save opportunities. Those 11 saves are tied for 4th most in the International League. On the year, opponents are hitting just .179 off Dessens with five extra-base hits in 117 at-bats.

UNHITTABLE:

RHP Adam Bostick continues his dominance. The reliever has not allowed a hit in his six appearances with the Herd. Bostick has worked 6.2 innings out of the Bisons bullpen, striking out six and allowing just three walks. Bostick began the season 3-0 with a 2.60ERA in 11 games with Binghamton (AA). He allowed 16 hits in 17.1 innings with the B-Mets.

HOT BAT:

INF Mike Lamb has hit in seven straight games. Since June 8, the slugger has averaged .440 (11-25) with three RBI and five runs. The stretch has raised his average 35 points to .219. ALL-STAR STAFF: The International League announced that Bisons Manager Ken Oberkfell has been added to the IL’s coaching staff for the Triple-A All-Star game on July 15. Oberkfell will serve under Louisville Manager Rick Sweet. Oberkfell has 834 wins in his 13-year career as a minor league manager.
