SeaWolves in front of 5,395 fans on Independence Day at
NYSEG Stadium. After throwing 7.2 scoreless innings in his
previous outing, Dylan Owen worked six scoreless frames to
pick up his first win of 2009. Ike Davis provided the pop in the
lineup with his first AA homer, a majestic three-run shot to
right-center of Erie starter Luis Marte to put the B-Mets ahead
3-0 in the sixth. Mike Nickeas came through with a two-out,
RBI single in the seventh inning to make it 4-0. Jake Ruckle
notched his first career save with 2.1 innings of scoreless
relief, allowing just one hit. Ruckle picked up his only strike
out for the final out of the contest as he whiffed Deik Scram to
bring the large crowd to its feet. Marte, who retired the first 13
batters in order, was hung with his eighth loss after giving up
all four runs in 6.2 innings. It was his seventh straight start of
six innings or better. Lucas Duda and Shawn Bowman netted
two-hit nights accounting for half of the B-Mets hits.

June 30, before allowing five straight to reach with two outs in
the third frame against New Hampshire, knocking him out of
the game after 2.2 innings. He allowed three runs and walked
four in game to take his fourth straight loss in the B-Mets 3-2
loss to the Fisher Cats. With Binghamton, he is 0-4 with a
7.64 ERA in 17.2 innings. He opened 2009 with St. Lucie
(High-A) and was 3-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 57.2 innings. Last
season, Niesen appeared in 26 games for St. Lucie, including
24 starts, and totaled a 6-12 record with a 4.64 ERA in 118.1
innings. He was the Mets’ third-round choice in 2007 out of
Wake Forest.

eighth start. He notched a win in his last start, June 30 versus
Trenton, with six innings of three-run work, despite walking a
season-high four men. With Erie, he is 2-2 with a 4.85 ERA in
39 innings. He opened the year in the bullpen for Lakeland
(High-A) where he went 1-0 with a 1.40 ERA in 19.1 innings.
Originally selected in the 16th round of the 2004 draft by
Colorado, Stanley had spent the previous three season in
independent ball before being signed by the Tigers in October
2008. He led the Atlantic League in strikeouts for Newark last
season with 151 in 139.2 innings with the Bears.
