Erie 12, B-Mets 4

Emmanuel Garcia reached base for the 18th straight game at NYSEG Stadium and Josh Petersen continued his hot hitting against left-handed pitching but Binghamton lost 12-4 to Erie Monday. The B-Mets had three doubles in the eighth inning but Erie took the series 2-1.

Garcia extended his streak when he walked in the eighth after coming in the game for an injured Ruben Tejada. Petersen went 3-4 with a double and RBI in the contest and raised his average to .300.

The SeaWolves struck first to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Eric Brown. Deik Scram led off the frame with a triple off the right-field wall and then scored on an Alex Avila sacrifice fly. Scram again went to right-field off Brown in the third inning, this time hitting a solo home run for his 11th of the season making it 2-0.

Erie (45-38) went up 3-0 in the fourth when Ron Bourquin drove in Danny Worth with a single. A three-run home run by Cale Iorg to left made it 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, the B-Mets got on the scoreboard to make it 6-1. Lucas Duda got things going with one out when he doubled off Erie starter Jon Kibler, who worked seven innings, giving up three run on four hits for the win. Then, with two outs, Petersen singled when the ball bounced over the glove of Bourquin at first, scoring Duda.

Stephen Clyne’s rough stretch continued in the seventh when he came on to relieve Brown. He gave four runs on four hits and three walks to make it 10-1. Edgar Alfonzo allowed a run in the eighth and ninth to allow the SeaWolves score reach 12 runs.

Binghamton (30-52) scored three in the eighth when Petersen doubled to lead off the inning against Kibler. Garcia then walked and Kibler was pulled from the game for reliever Ramon Garcia. Mike Nickeas then reached on a fielder’s choice when Garcia was out at second. D.J. Wabick proceeded to double bringing in Petersen and moving Nickeas to third. Jonathan Malo then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Nickeas and Ike Davis doubled to score Wabick making the score 11-4.

Brown lost his ninth game of the season, giving up six runs on nine hits. He tied a season-high with six strikeouts and tied a season-best by not allowing a walk.
