Minor Thoughts - Tuesday

1. Well, Binghamton had some fun Monday morning, beating New Britain, 14-0. Everybody got into the hitting, except for Ike Davis (0-5). CF Emmanuel Garcia went 3-6, and raised his batting average to .270. SS Miquel Tejada (.278) also had three hits. Pitching wise, Brad Holt got his act back together: 7.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 7-K, 1-BB. Emary Frederick (0.00) pitched another scoreless inning.

2. Ex-Mets prospect, SP Deolis Guerra, pitched for New Britain Monday against the B-Mets. He gave up 4-ERs in 4.2-IP, and raised his AA-ERA to 5.59.

3. The GCL Mets won Monday, beating the Astros, 7-6. SPs Ramiro Peralta (3.46) and Orlando Tovar (1-0, 3.00) piggybacked for 8.0 innings. 3B Richard Lucas (.429), C Nefli Zapata (.378), LF Julio Concepcion (.309), and DH Orlando Rodriquez (.278) each had multi-hit games. The GCL Mets are now 12-5 for the season.

4. One positive problem that is developing on the GCL Mets is they have too many good hitting catchers. Nelfi Zapata would be considered catcher #1, hitting .378/.453/.622/1.075, but right behind him is Amauris Valdez (.375/.375/.438/.813), Juan Torres (.345/.406/.517/.923), and Orlando Rodriquez (.278/.381/.444/.825. Oh yeah… all four have combined for only three errors.

  1. I can understand the Mets still want to cash in on the Pena investment ($750,000), but how much longer are they going to keep the Franco-Prussian combo in Savannah?

  2. Good observation, Matt.

I really expects Dock Doyle to play, at least, Savannah this year, and I wouldn't be surprised if Zapata ends up there.

The real embarrassment is making Abruzzo go there for the thrid time and DH again.
