Bisons - Game Notes




TODAY’S GAME:


This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the third game of a four-game set from Coca-Cola Field (1:05p.m.). The series is tied at a game apiece following the Herd’s 7-5 victory last night. The Bisons are 6-4 in their last 10 games. After tomorrow’s series finale, the Herd travels to Syracuse for a two-game set with the Chiefs.


vs. THE I-PIGS:


The Herd is 3-6 against Lehigh Valley this season. The Bisons lost a three-game set in Lehigh Valley (2-1) from May 5-7 and a four-game set here at Coca-Cola Field, May 25-28 (3-1). The Bisons have gone 7-7 (.500) at home against the I-Pigs since Lehigh Valley’s arrival in the IL in 2008.


HITTIN’ HERD:


The Bisons offense has averaged .305 in the first 15 games of August -seven points better than any other team in the International League. The Bisons are scoring 5.5 runs/game this month and have launched 14 home runs in 15 games (3rd most in IL). Seven different Bisons hitters are averaging .314 or better in the month, led by INF Argenis Reyes (.413), INF Wilson Valdez (.366) and INF Andy Green (.328).


THE REY TO BE:


INF Argenis Reyes has ramped up his hit streak. Not only has he hit in 14-straight games, he has three consecutive three-hit games. Since the streak began on August 1, Reyes has averaged .413 (26-63) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, seven RBI and eight runs scored. It’s the second-longest active hit streak in the IL (IND Brian Bixler, 15) and the second-longest for a Bisons player this season. (INF Javier Castillo, 16 games June 26 - July 12).


HIT STREAKIN:


Other Bisons hitting streaks include INF Andy Green, who has averaged .455 (15-33) over the last seven games. Also at seven games is OF Chip Ambres, who has averaged .407 (11-27) since August 9. Ambres has four doubles, a home run and seven RBI in seven games this homestand.


HALL OF FAME:


Prior to today’s game, former INF/Coach Carlos Garcia and former INF Dave Hollins will be inducted into the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame. Garcia was an American Association All-Star in 1992 and Hitting Coach for the Herd’s 2004 Governors’ Cup Championship. Hollins slugged 112 big league home runs before joining the Herd in 2000-2001. Greats “Rube” Kisinger and Joe Knight will also be inducted into the IL Hall of Fame.
