Reading 7, Binghamton 1

Ike Davis hit his ninth home run of the season to tally the B-Mets only run in a 7-1 loss to the Reading Phillies Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. Jonathan Malo hit his sixth double of the season for the B-Mets only other extra-base hit and Binghamton left nine men on base.

Reading was the first to get on the board when they scored a run in the third inning off B-Mets starter Brad Holt. Carlos Leon, who singled to lead off the frame, scored on Quintin Berry’s triple.

Davis moved into a tie for first on the team with his ninth home run of the season off Phillies starter Yohan Flande in the fourth inning to pull Binghamton (42-68) back even at one.

The tie was short lived, however, because Reading (62-49) tallied four runs in the fifth. Ozzie Chavez led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on Flande’s sacrifice bunt before advancing to third on a passed ball.

After Berry walked, Michael Spidale singled to bring in Chavez and moved Berry to third. Domonic Brown then singled to score Berry and Brian Stavisky doubled to score Spidale. Neil Sellers hit a sacrifice fly to plate Brown and cap the scoring against Holt in the inning, bringing it to 5-1.

In the sixth, Berry smashed a two-run, opposite-field home run to chase Holt from the game and push the margin 7-1.

Holt worked 5.2 innings and fell to 2-6 on the year. He allowed a season-high seven earned runs on nine hits.

Flande worked six innings, allowing one run on five hits. He struck out a season-high eight B-Mets batters, earning his second win with Reading.
