D.J. Wabick smacked three hits including his second homer in as many games, but the B-Mets fell 6-4 to the Baysox at Prince George’s Stadium Thursday night. Binghamton led 4-1 after three innings, but Bowie scored the next five runs unanswered to take the game and the series, two games to one.

The B-Mets jumped out to a two-run lead in the first inning on starter Fredy Deza. Kirk Nieuwenhuis walked to open the frame and was followed by Ruben Tejada, who singled. Wabick stepped up with an RBI single to left-center to plate Nieuwenhuis. Then with two outs, Carlos Guzman drove in Tejada with a single into center, making it 2-0.

After the Baysox brought across a run in the second, Binghamton (52-84) returned the favor with a pair of solo home runs from Wabick and Guzman to stretch the lead to 4-1.

In the fourth inning, Jake Ruckle entered in relief of spot starter Edgar Alfonzo, who acquitted himself well with three, solid innings of one-run ball. Bowie (70-67) jumped on Ruckle for four runs in a flash. Eric Crozier led off the inning with a solo homer to right, which moved the Baysox within two runs. With one out, Tyler Henson and Joe Nowicki reached on singles leading to veteran catcher Steve Torrealba. Torrealba sat on a Ruckle offering sending it over the left field wall for a three-run homer, vaulting Bowie over the B-Mets 5-4.

Josh Bell added another run for the Baysox with a solo homer of his own off Ruckle in the fifth inning, which ran the lead up to two.

Deza exited after five innings giving way to the bullpen, which tossed four hitless innings the rest of the way to hold the B-Mets down. Deza allowed four runs on nine hits in five innings to notch his sixth win.

Ruckle was hung with loss after surrendering five runs in three innings on a season-worst three homers.

In addition to Wabick’s three-hit showing, Guzman went 2-4 with a homer and two RBIs and Jose Coronado output a 2-4 performance.

Binghamton welcomes Altoona to NYSEG Stadium Friday night in the first of a four-game set which will wind down the 2009 campaign.
