Mets Keepers: - #99 - C Nohisglin Rivero

99. Nohisglin Rivero – C – VSL – 20/yrs.

No, I have no idea how to pronounce his first name, but I’ll be glad to tag him with ‘No-Ro’ right now.

Rivero is one of two catchers that look to graduate to the States in the spring. Remember, every team needs at least three catchers and it’s rare to find one batting over .300 in the minors.
Rivero will play next year as a twenty year old and is a native of Valencia, Venezuela. He only managed to get 91 at bats this past season, but he impressed with stats of .308/.340/.429/.769.
The right-hander hit .347 (75 Abs) against right-handed pitchers, and hit only .125 (16 Abs) against lefties, but that isn’t back-assward platooning. It’s more a sign of not too many lefties in Venezuela.

Forecast: There is a good chance that Rivero will repeat for the VSL team in 2010, which is fine with me, but he still impressed enough to make the keepers list. Like I said before, you simply can’t have enough good hitting catchers and my prediction at this point in the early preseason is that Rivero will play for the GCL Mets in 2010.
