The Keepers - #53 - RP - Tim McNabb

53. Tim McNabb – RP – 30/yrs.
Mcnabb was drafted by the New York Mets in the 22nd round of the 2002 draft.

Since then, he has pitched in nine seasons for the Mets, at every level, except for Queens. He survived the Rule V draft, was resigned by the Mets to help in their upper minor league levels, and had his best stint this past season for Binghamton (8 appearances, 0-0, 3.27, 1.18).

McNab has pithed for the Mets four times at the AAA level in the past four season, but has had trouble keeping his ERA before four. That being said his combined nine year stats are: 37-35, 4.24, in 300 appearances, 1.37 WHIP, 357-K, 550.1-IP.

There’s plenty of major leaguers that haven’t put up these stats.

An old observation by me at http://www.flushinguniversity.com/ in 2008:

Tim McNab P R R 6-0 170 6-4-80 Florida Atlantic University - The Mets selected McNab with their 22nd round pick (657th overall) of the 2002 amateur draft. Prior to being drafted by the Mets, Tim played for Florida Atlantic Univesity. His hometown is Hollywood, FL. And he was signed by the Mets on 6-12-2002. McNab has been within the Mets system for 5 years, pitching for 7 teams including AAA Norfolk. His career Mets stats are 21-22 in 160 appearances, 5 stars, 16 saves, an ERA of 4.34, and a WHIP of 1.38. McNab pitched some of the 2007 season for AAA New Orleans (1-1, 3.63, 1.21 in 11 relief appearances), but pitched most of the year for Binghamton (7-5, 2.92, 1.27 in 35 appearances, 2 starts). Observation: McNab turns 28 in June. 2007 was his 6th season with the Mets, so I guess he was passed over last year in the Rule V. He seems to be doing what it takes to get a shot, and I’m sure he will anchor the Zephyrs’ bullpen next year.

Forecast: Is McNab a AAAA organizational player. You bet your ass he is. Is he a good one? You bet your ass he is. Every organization needs 10-20 guys like this to be the glue to lower levels that are full of up and down prospects.
Whill McNabb ever make it Queens? You bet your ass he won’t, but he’s still a keeper in my book.
