Bostick, Bay, Revised Mets Draft Order... and Kaiser Sose

1. Adam Bostick:

The Kansas City Royals signed ex-Met pitcher Adam Bostick today.

On November 20, 2006, the Mets traded Matt Lindstrom and Henry Owens to the Florida Marlins. In return, they received Bostick and Jason Vargas.

In the words of Kaiser Sose… POOF

2. Jason Bay:

The Mets are showing their offseason priorities revolve around offense. Their offer to Bay demonstrates a willingness to pay to shore up their offense, possibly at the expense of improving their pitching. That doesn't mean it's not a sound move for the Mets. The only big name outfielders are Bay and Matt Holliday. The Mets can get mid-tier starting pitching without spending too much and still have a better staff than they had last season. The Mets desperately need to improve their offense. New York was 12th in the NL in runs with 671, 16th in home runs with 95, and 12th in slugging percentage at .394. Those poor numbers are partially due to the slew of injuries the team suffered. But an upgrade in left field is warranted.

At the same time, the Mets need to upgrade their pitching. John Lackey is a worthwhile target. It just remains to be seen what happens with the Mets making him their alternate target. Doing so could cost the team both Bay and Lackey. At the very least, however, the Mets' offers to Bay and Molina demonstrate the team is attempting to improve itself after last season's disaster. Anyone the team signs will be an improvement. Especially if it's Jason Bay. - mlbnotebook

3. Josh Thole:

But the one thing I take issue with is the constant reference to the fact that the Mets have Josh Thole and therefore shouldn't get an upgrade at catcher.

May I remind you of a certain fellow by the name of Daniel Murphy? Remember he came up, much like Thole, hit well and played well in September and then every Mets fan and front office employee was crowning him the second coming of Pete Rose. Look where that got us.

Let's not anoint Josh Thole the next best catcher in the world quite yet. Yes, he played well in September in pretty much meaningless games. Sure he's doing ok in winter league ball. But if you think that Thole will be a contributor to the Mets next season on an everyday basis, you're kidding yourself. - metslifers

4. Revised Mets Draft Order:

First Round - 7. New York Mets (Protected)

Second Round - 44. New York Mets

Third Round - 75. New York Mets
