F-Mart in Playoffs, Timo, The Fonz, Prentice Redman... and Arturo Lopez

Fernando Martinez:

Hitters to Watch in the Playoffs - Joaquin Arias used to be a top prospect with the Yankees, but now must play second fiddle to Elvis Andrus. He is trying to prove to some team that he can hit (.305). Only two of his 29 hits have gone for extra bases and at that rate he may have to settle for a utility role. Carlos Gomez had a down year last year and will get another chance, this time joining the Brewers to patrol centerfield. He joined Escogido in the second half of the season and is hitting .275, plenty of bat for a player that can play defense like Carlos. Daryl Ward should provide the power, though in 16 games during the season he hit just one homerun and drove in 11 runs. Fernando Martinez may need more playing and use the playoffs to get that time. He only hit .191 in the 14 games he played for Leones. In a strange stat award, 5 of Ben Copeland’s six extra base hits have been triples. -  MWOB

Timo Perez:

Licey Tigres (28-22) - Top Hitter: Timo Perez led the league in hitting with a .356 average. He had a .408 OBA and .515 slugging, and his production of 26 RBIs was tops on the team... Wily Mo Pena has made a comeback with his bat, hitting .324 with six homeruns and 16 RBIs   Jorge Sosa (4-2, 3.83)   -  MWOB

Edgardo Alfonzo:

Magallanes 4, Aragua 3 - Giants first baseman Pablo Sandoval delivered a two-run single during a three-run seventh inning that sent the first-place Navegantes past the Tigres. Rafael Cova (Giants) recorded two outs to pick up his fifth win, while former Major Leaguer Edgardo Alfonzo chipped in an RBI double. Yohan Pino (Indians) allowed a run on two hits over 5 2/3 innings for Aragua

Prentice Redman:

Ponce 4, Arecibo 3 - Red Sox prospect Iggy Suarez had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored as the Leones held off the Lobos. Prentice Redman (Dodgers) went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double, while former Major Leaguer Hector Mercado allowed two runs on four hits over five innings for the win. Efrain Nieves (Brewers) tossed 3 1/3 frames of scoreless relief for Arecibo

Arturo Lopez:

Mochis 5, Navojoa 1 - Arturo Lopez (Mets) allowed a run on six hits over six innings as the Caneros handed the Mayos their fourth straight loss. The Major League veteran struck out four and walked one to improve to 2-2. Carlos Sievers went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Henry Mateo (Rays) added a pair of hits and scored three times for Los Mochis  -  MLB
