The Future of the Mets Third Base

3B

AAA projection: - Mike Cervenak – don’t know much about this guy, but he’s old and he’s white, so he’s perfect for Buffalo.

AA Projection: - Zach Lutz – there’s going to be a lot more press on this very talented kid this year… 11 home runs and 62 RBIs for Lucy last season, hitting .284/.381/.441/.822… turns 24 in June.

A+ Projection: - Richard Lucas – Lucas combined for .318/.414/.534/.948 with K-Port, Brooklyn, and GCL. Looks like he will bypass Savannah and jump straight to Lucy.

A Projection: - Jenry Marte – Marte needs another year in the Coastal Empire to learn how to catch a ground ball. Last year’s highly touted prospect has a long way to go.

Brooklyn Projection: - Aderlin Rodriguez – this just may be the most talented third baseman the Mets have in the minors. Brooklyn will love him. Hit .290 for GCL and will play 2010 as a 19 year old.

Kingsport Projection: - Charlie Hinojosa - another stud, the 6-3 21 year old hit .323 for GCL.

Imbewer Alvarez – so far, a bust… may not make it out of camp

Josh Dunn – who?

Tyler Vaughn – odd man out right now, will probably backup in Savannah in 2010

Joseph Bonfe – tore up K-Port (.327) in 2009, but where do you play him?

James Schroeder – hit .200 in 20 at bats in 2009… next…

Matt Bouchard - ??? – not sure what the status is with Matt’s labrum surgery recovering. I’m sure he’ll spend April in Extended Camp

Overview:

This might be the most talented group of Mets minor league third basemen ever. Yes Virginia, in two years the Mets system will be in the top 5 in the league.

  1. No Shawn Bowman in the mix, Mack?

Betcha he's a utility guy in Queens before 2010 is over.
