  1. What ever happened to Shawn Bowman? Isn't he most complete third base prospect Mets have? I realize his back injuries have slowed his progress but should start in AAA and is only third base prospect that can field and has pretty good idea on how to hit. Only real question is whether he will hit for enough power. You didn't inlcude him on third base list for minors either. I can't believe you think he is big league ready so what gives? I thought he was a player that the Mets would stick in a trade and it would come back to haunt the Mets. So far they haven't done so. Before his back injuries wasn't he being hyped as a potential reason to move Wright to first base?

  2. How about this instead. Sign Aroldis Chapman. He helps Buffalo at beginning of year and with the addition of Urbina and Matz the Mets all of a sudden, assuming health from Mejia and Holt, have one of the deepest farm systems in potential top of the rotation starters. There are too many question marks in Mets rotation so someone needs to be traded. Although he has a big upside, Mike Pelfrey is most logical player to go. I try a package centered on Pelfrey and the Astros choice of FMart or Neuwenhuis for Roy Oswalt. Xavier Nady would be a good sign as well. He can platoon at first while he is recovering from surgery at beginning of year and provides outfield depth second half of season. First base depth is necessary because Ike Davis is an injury risk. He didn't hit any homeruns his first year as a Mets farmhand because of an oblique injury and he tweaked the same injury right after the all-star break last year so I am a little concerned that this will be a lingering issue. Don't count out Daniel Murphy at first. He made adjustments to his swing mid season that David Wright was unable to do. His biggest problem is not knowing where to be in cutoff situations. It's too bad that the Mets don't pay Keith Hernandez a little extra to help Murph with the transition to first. No need to trade Castillo at second. Expect Reese Havens to make quick progress this year. His underlying stats show he is primed for break out year. Keep Luis for this year and then have Havens transition into job second half of 2011 season. Let's all pray that Jose Reyes is physically healthy and David Wright starts trusting himself over Howard Johnson and Jerry Manuel. I would've fired both Johnson and Manuel just for what they did to Wright alone last year. Outfield is tough. I protect Beltran's knees and put him in left. Having had three knee surgeries on my left knee I can empathize with Beltran but he is most likely never going to be the same again. Lastly sign both Bedard and Sheets. Lineup

    1. Jose Reyes, ss
    2. Angel Pagan, cf
    3. Carlos Beltran, lf
    4. David Wright, 3b
    5. Daniel Murphy/ Xavier Nady, 1b
    6. Jeff Francouer, RF
    7. Benjie Molina, C
    8. Luis Castillo, 2b

    Starters

    1. Johan Santana
    2. Roy Oswalt
    3. Ben Sheets
    4. Oliver Perez
    5. John Maine, Jonathan Niese, Erik Bedard or Nelson Figeurora until weather warms.

I would let Parnell start at AAA. With Aroldis Chapman and perhaps Niese or Bedard at beginning of year.

All of these moves would cost considerably less then signing Bay and keep emphasis on starting pitching which is where it should be. Mets minor league system is down in part because the injury bug hit the minors last year as well. Just give it time and Mets farm system has potential to be in top ten by end of the year.

  3. Mark.

    1. I simply forgot about Powman the first time. He simply wasn't in my mind's eye.

    2. Regarding Bowman's chances to crack 3B for Queens, it's not going to happen. Wright will die a Met, will never play OF or 1B, and Bowman will either become a fixture at 3B in AAA, become an AAAA Met, or be traded somewhere. He's a very good player, but nobody wil replace David Wright until he's 35+. Nobody.

    3. Your play is fine. It's your plan. Mine looks like it's already wrong if the Mets sign Piniero. Plans fail.
