Josh, Top 100 Prospect List, Cliff Floyd, Jose... and Raul Valdez & Figgy

Josh Thole :

Born 10/28/1986 (23 years old) - C, NYM - A squat, strong catcher who looks like a long-term asset in New York, Josh Thole is on the cusp of major league regulardom. He hit .328/.395/.422 at AA Birmingham in 2009, and showed he could handle major league pitching during his September callup. While his power hasn't developed (yet), he's still very young for a catcher, so it could come soon enough. Thole already shows advanced hitting for average, with decent pop from gap to gap. Behind the plate, he's reliable enough that the Mets have to be thinking about handing him the job to open 2010. - link

Cliff Floyd:

"Former Marlins All Star slugger Cliff Floyd showed up in Jupiter this afternoon — but not to win a roster job. Wearing street clothes, Floyd was interviewing players for a television segment that will be shown at 11 a.m. Saturday on Fox Sports Florida. "I'm just basically winging it," Floyd said after finishing his first interviews. "This is a totally different ballgame. It's almost like being a rookie and going into the game. Its not easy. It's a serious job. "I dont know where it's going to go but to get comfortable with it won't hurt. I haven't officially retired so if someone calls and they need a big left off the bench, call me up." - link

Jose:

The Mets don’t need Reyes to suddenly become a 30-HR hitter, they just need for him to continue to drive the ball into the gap to drive in runs. With Angel Pagan or Luis Castillo, two contenders for the leadoff spot, Reyes should be able to fill the void in the middle of the Mets lineup. Let’s face it, after three straight disappointing seasons, the Mets need to shake things up. If Reyes proves to be ineffective batting third they can move him back to the leadoff spot. Reyes, Beltran, Wright and Bay would give the Mets a potent middle of the order. - link

Raul Valdez & Figgy:

We missed former Can-Am hurler Raul Valdes when we singled out Nelson Figueroa, now with the New York Mets, and St. Louis non-roster invitee Pete Parise in this space for making the all-tournament team at the end of the Caribbean Series. The left-handed Valdes pitched with both Nashua, NH and the New Jersey Jackals (Little Falls) in 2006. This trio made up three quarters of the all-tourney pitching selections. Figueroa spent some time with the Long Island (NY) Ducks of the Atlantic League while Parise, who figures to draw considerable attention during spring training because of his Triple-A closing feats last summer as well as winter baseball, started his pro career with Slippery Rock, PA (Frontier League). - link
