Low Expectations:

We head into 2010 with very low expectations. And I’m glad. We’ve got stars coming back from injuries. We have an uncertain situation at 1B and behind the plate. We’ve got Johan followed by 4 question marks. Our front office in utter chaos. Our owner is not well liked and we still have mixed feelings about our new stadium. We have a manager who is in the crosshairs and a General Manager who has been the subject of more discussion then Health Care. And to all of this I say, Good. I hate to use clichés but it is always darkest before dawn. - link

Derek’s Favorite Mets:

Dykstra - CF chew that tobacco!

Jefferies - 2B all hype- but still liked his grit!

Wright 3B he has very little help!

Piazza - C 1st ballot hall of famer with a Mets hat!

Strawberry- RF - devastating!

McReynolds LF - solid!

Hernandez - 1B - how come #17 is on Fernando Tatis's back still?

Ventura - DH/3B he had some memorable hits in the late 90's/00's.

Elster - SS - the best fielding SS the Mets have had- forget Ordonez!

Edgardo Alfonzo - He was a very solid player at 3B and 2B for the Mets

Gary Carter - C If not for Piazza he is the starter!

Rico Brogna - slick fielder- I was always a fan!

Backman - Gritty back in the day!

Mookie - When Al Harazin traded him for Jeff Mussleman I wanted to cry!

Cone - my favorite Met picther of all time!

Saberhagen- he was just nasty!

Darling- I was depressed when he got traded for Tim Burke! Ugh!

Leiter - he was Mr Met for awhile! Money pitcher!

Myers - why they traded him for John Franco is beyond me!

McDowell - Why they traded him in the deal with Dykstra for Samuel is also beyond me!

KRod - watching him last year was alot of fun!

Turk Wendell - quirky and money!

Dennis Cook- solid from the left side!

David and Frenchy:

Francouer has encouraged Wright to play more golf this spring training. Francouer also can take away some of the massive media responsibilities from Wright and get him away from thinking baseball 24-7.

When the two are hitting in the cage, Francouer keeps it fun. The outgoing Francouer is good at seeing the big picture and wants to help Wright to be more relaxed.

“Let’s have fun, let’s play golf, let’s enjoy ourselves,” Francouer explained. Francouer then told the story about how he took Wright golfing last year during the season on an off-day. Wright complained, saying that he does not like to play golf during the season. Francouer guaranteed that Wright would get some hits the next game if only he went out for a little golf therapy. The next game, Wright got three hits - link

Jenrry Mejia:

Keep your eyes on young right-handed pitcher Jenrry Mejia. He threw a bullpen session yesterday and his stuff was, in manager Jerry Manuel's words, "electric." He's only 20 years old and is one of the Mets' bright arms of the future. In their world he is a future starter in the majors, a possible ace. Manuel threw out a fascinating thought during his press conference at the end of the day. One of the topics was the eighth-inning hole in the Mets' bullpen. Manuel said the eighth inning is wide open. Then he tossed out the idea of even taking a look at Mejia for such a role.  - link
