3-22 ST Game Recap

ST:

It's obvious that the Mets wanted, at least, one more look at 1B Chris Carter, IF/OF Frank Catalanotto,, and 2B Russ Adams, before the cuts come down Monday night...

Can't a Mets rotational pitcher get out of the first inning without giving up a run? Mike Pelfrey serves up a 1-run yard ball to Ryan Zimmerman, followed by a second home run in the 2nd inning by Josh Willingham. He finished badly and totalled out: 4-2-IP, 6-R, 5-ER, 3-K and a whopping 4-HRs. His ERA is 7.36 and, frankly, there is less than two weeks away from the start of the season and the Mets can't find two consistent pitchers yet.

Oh yeah... the one that is... is Nelson Figueroa.

A rare occurance on Monday... a starting Nats lineup without an ex-Met.

Some of the Mets ST BAs going into Monday's game:  Tatis - .056, Francoeur: .172, Catalanotto: .118, Blanco: .143.

Both Robert Parnell (2.89), and Jenrry Mejia (1.69) pitched a scoreless inning. Look for Mejia to do the same tomorrow.

Ryota Igarashi's ERA is now 5.63, which isn't helping matters...  lot of pressure on Warthan right now.

Beating The Carter Drum Again:

I know this sounds like a broken record, but keep 1B/OF/PH Chris Carter on the team.

I also know THIS sounds like a broken record, but Carter had two hits (3-5) in his first two at bats on Monday. He had three hits on Saturday and they don't even count in his .444 batting average.

Look, the Mets didn't trade for this kid's fielding ability. He was the best the team could get for a pitcher the team didn't want... and only one other team wanted.

He was offerred by the Red Sox becoase there has been no room for him in three years, while at the same time, Carter has a 6-yr minor league .890 OPS.

Minor Rosters:

It's close to impossible that this point in the game to figure out who will be on what roster. By my estimate there are at least 10 players on the parent side of the complex that will eventually be sent to AAA-Buffalo before opening day... and even more will go to AA-Binghamton.

Right now, both the AAA and AA clubs are playing a spring training schedule of their own, but what happens to those players when the one's mentioned above get re-assigned?

No, I always try and figure thisone out early, but frankly, no one in the Mets organization has it figured out at this point.

In two more weeks, we'll all know.
