At Bat 2010, Drew Storen, Death of Greenville Avenue, Gary Keith and Ron... and Upton Deal

At Bat 2010:

It has become one of the best selling apps for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch (it ranked at #2 selling app on iTunes for 2009), expanded to Blackberry and Android devices (albeit, without live streaming video), and was hyped at the iPad launch earlier this year. What is it? MLB.com's "At Bat".

(POLL: Do You Plan on Using MLB At Bat 2010 for Your Mobile Device This Season?)

Now in its third incarnation, At Bat 2010 launches today, just in time for Spring Training telecasts (it hit iTune's App Store all but 10 min. before the first Spring Training Game aired). What do you get this year? Here's a look: - BizOfBaseball

Drew Storen (photo by Getty Images):

Maybe one day Drew Storen(notes) will sigh and mutter something about "the iPod league" when considering the possibility of yet another long bus trip across Florida for yet another spring training game. But the days of echoing what one grizzled Nats veteran near his locker said on Monday sure seem a long way off for Storen, a non-roster invitee who's said to be the closer of the future for the Washington Nationals - yahoo

Death Of Greenville Avenue (photo by oldschooler):

Terilli's. Greenville Avenue Bar and Grill. Hurricane Grill.
I'm guessing I have been inside these buildings 30-40 times in my life. 50 maybe?

To watch the fire on TV this morning that devastated a block of Greenville Avenue was sad for me as it was for thousands of others. If you never ordered the italchos, an Italian version of nachos, at Terilli's, you missed out.

If and when those places are rebuilt, it won't be the same. The original structure was built more than 80 years ago. You can bring back the menus, the bartenders, the good people who work there and the patrons, too.

But Dallas isn't a city with lots of places to go where you can say, "Yeah, this has been here since the 1930s.''

And now, sadly, it has even fewer.  -  tim cowlishaw

Gary, Keith, and Ron  (avatar by goplanet):

Always glad to see the media appreciating Gary, Keith, and Ron as much as we viewers do. A great article on the chemistry and craft of our modern-day Bob Murphy, Ralph Kiner, and Lindsey Nelson.
And right this instant, with Grapefruit League games officially about to start, the dulcet sounds of GKR fill my apartment, and I'm about to see our boys play for the first time in 2010. Let's go Mets! - pickmeup

Upton Deal:

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Justin Upton's six-year, $51 million contract extension with the Diamondbacks will be announced on Wednesday.

The extension begins with the 2010 season and will carry him through 2015, buying out his first two years of free agency. It's a worthy contract for a player of Upton's considerable potential and with any luck, he'll be in line for another major pay day when he hits free agency at the age of 28. Upton, 22, is already one of the best outfielders in the game. - rotoworld.
