3/27/10

Game Day: 3-27: - Hisanori, Omir, Jacobs, and meh

-I find it a little strange that, with eight days to go until opening day, that the Mets are still trying out players in their starting lineup.

I mentioned a week ago that if anyone would turn out to be a dark horse in the rotation, look for that on Monday, March 29th, when there are two squads playing at the same time. I was wrong. Today is the day Hisanori Takahashi makes a late claim for the SP5 slot... or is it the SP4 slot...

Takahashi has been impressive so far this ST, going 2-0, 0.00, in 8.1-IP, 3-G, 10-K... 0.60 WHIP.

I think it is nice that Omir Santos gets another start, but why? Everybody knows that the Mets will carry only two catchers, and everybody equally knows that those two catchers will be Henry Blanco and Rod Barajas.

A sidebar story about Omir...  I was at the Mets complex when the pitchers and catchers reported and there were a bunch of fans outside, as usual, hoping for a glimpse of their favorite player. One was a man in a wheelchair, who was hoping to get an autograph from Santos. Word got back to Omir in the locker room, and he got up, walked outside, gave the man an autograph, and stayed long enough for relatives of the man to take pictures of the two together.  A class act.

-David Wright continues to peak at the right time, driving in a run in the first inning with a double. Wright, Jason Bay, and Angel Pagan are ready. Jeff Francoeur, Mike Jacobs, and Daniel Murphy aren't.

-Well, okay... the Mets got that out of their system... Takahaski gave up three more runs in the third inning, which totalled four in three...

-Don't have any idea why K-Rod pitched two innings, instead of one...

-I hate to keep sounding so contrary, but I'm getting sick of late inning replacements with batting averages under .200.

-God, this is painfull...
