LAST GAME: B-Mets starter Eric Niesen only lasted 1.1 innings
before exiting after allowing two earned runs due to injury.
Josh Stinson came up big in relief with 4.2 innings of shutout
baseball to pick up the win. Binghamton rallied against reigning
Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Luis Perez in the
fourth inning loading the bases on a pair of walks and a Perez
error. However, the rally was thwarted by a double play ground
ball, resulting in just one run scoring in the frame. Down 2-1
entering the fifth, the B-Mets tied the game with two outs.
Jonathan Malo ran out an infield single and was driven home
on a Kirk Nieuwenhuis double to the alley in right-center.
Niewenhuis then came around to score the go-ahead run on
an RBI single from Luis Hernandez. Binghamton wrapped up
the win in the ninth when Derrick Ellison struck out Brian
Jeroloman looking with the bases loaded to earn his first save.
much anticipated 2010 debut for the B-Mets. Holt missed his
first three starts of the season due to a right wrist injury. Last
season, he made 11 starts for Binghamton and struggled with
a 3-6 record and a 6.21 ERA in 58 innings. He is considered
the No. 5 prospect in the Mets system by Baseball America.
Holt was drafted by the Mets as a first round supplemental
pick in 2008, going 33rd overall out of UNC-Wilmington.
RHP Kyle Drabek will start for the fourth time this season for
the Fisher Cats. In his last start, he beat Trenton with five
innings of three-run work April 19, but walked a season-high
five men. Drabek is 2-1 with a 5.17 ERA in 15.2 innings on
the season. Entering the season, he was considered the No.2
prospect in the Phillies organization before joining the Blue
Jay organization as part of the trade for ace Roy Halladay. He
was drafted by the Phillies in the first round of the June 2006
draft out of The Woodlands HS (TX).
WABICK WORTH THE WAIT: Outfielder D.J. Wabick, who is
traditionally a slow starter, started 1-18 at the plate in his
first six games. Since, he has hit in four straight games with
a .353 (6-17) average including two doubles, a homer and five
RBI. He hit just .205 (9-44) in the month of April last season.
So far, he is hitting .200 (7-25) in 10 games with Binghamton
in 2010.
HERNANDEZ HACKING: B-Mets shortstop Luis Hernandez
extended his Eastern League-best hitting streak to 11 games
last night with the game-winning hit, an RBI single in the fifth
inning. During the streak, Hernandez is hitting .349 (15-43)
with three doubles, a homer and seven RBI. He has spent
time in the Big Leagues in each of the past three seasons with
Baltimore and Kansas City.
