LAST GAME: After scoring 25 runs in its last two games entering


play Thursday night, the B-Mets could not keep up with

New Hampshire offensively in a 10-3 loss at NYSEG Stadium.

Starter Eddie Kunz struggled with his command for the third

straight start, walking four men. Of the four walks, three came

around to score of the former closer, who took the loss after

allowing five runs in four innings. Fisher Cats starter Bobby

Bell was much improved from his last start against the BMets,

April 17, when he allowed seven runs in five innings.

Bell output a quality start, allowing two runs in six, strong

innings with a season-best seven strikeouts to pick up the

win. Binghamton got solo homers from Jose Coronado and

Lucas Duda to account for two of the three runs. The other

run came in the eighth innings on a Luke Montz sac fly. Montz

went 2-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI.


STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Eric Niesen will make his

team-leading fourth start tonight versus the Fisher Cats. In

four innings at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium last Sunday, he

allowed two runs, one earned, in a short four inning start to

take the loss. He is 0-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 12.2 innings with

10 walks and 12 strikeouts. Niesen led all Mets minor leaguers

with 134 strikeouts in 2009. He was the Mets’ third-round

choice in 2007 out of Wake Forest and is considered the No.

24 prospect in the Mets farm system by Baseball America

Reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week LHP Luis Perez

makes his third start of the year tonight against a familiar foe.

April 18 he tossed seven, one-hit innings to beat the B-Mets 3-

1 at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium, outdueling Niesen. For the

year, the southpaw is 2-0 with an 0.53 ERA in 17 innings with

six walks and 11 strikeouts. Last season, the 25-year-old

Dominican went 9-11 with a 3.55 ERA in 162 innings as a

member of the Fisher Cats rotation


WABICK WORTH THE WAIT: Outfielder D.J. Wabick, who is

traditionally a slow starter, started 1-18 at the plate in his

first six games. Since, he has hit in four straight games with

a .353 (6-17) average including two doubles, a homer and five

RBI. He hit just .205 (9-44) in the month of April last season.

So far, he is hitting .200 (7-25) in 10 games with Binghamton

in 2010.


HERNANDEZ HACKING: After enjoying two days off, shortstop

Luis Hernandez returned to the starting lineup last night and

managed a hit and a walk in four trips to the plate to extend

his team-leading hitting streak to 10 games. During the

streak, Hernandez is hitting .350 (14-40) with three doubles,

a homer and six RBI. It is the longest active streak in the Eastern

League.
