Stock Up:
Kai Gronauer – C – A-Savannah – Gronauer platooned last year at Savannah and returned this season as the number one backstop. He’s off to a great start which included a torid week last week. For the year, Kai stands at: .321/.410/.453/.863
Wilmer Flores – SS – A-Savannah – the 18-year old Flores is off to his best professional start. This is his third pro-season and he’s still three years away from the legal drinking age. More important, is the fact that his pop has come around these past couple of weeks, especially on the last road trip. Stats for the season: .338/.384/.525/.909
Manuel Alvarez – RP – A+ - St. Lucie – there isn’t much lights out pitching going on in St. Lucie right now, but Alvarez is the exception: In 9 appearances, Alvarez still hasn’t given up a run and stats ut at: 2-0, 0.00, 15-K, 12.1-IP.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis – OF – AA – Binghamton – Kirk is off to another of his typical productive years: .313.360/.475/.835. I happen to think that he’s the top Mets outfield prospect and will get to Queens ahead of Fernando “Day-To-Day” Martinez, who I understand is once again dinged up.
R. A. Dickey – SP – AAA – Buffalo… yes, the Mets pitching is doing fantastic, but you must always be ready to send someone to Queens to either bail out an embattled starter or a recent injury. Right now, the number one minor league starter with a bag packed is the knuckleballer Dickey, who has been virtually lights out in his last three outings: 25.0-IP, 6-ER. Dickey is a ground ball machine that will always look a little better at the AAA level, where many players haven’t had as much experience against knucklers.
