LAST GAME: For the second straight night, the B-Mets turned

an early deficit into a victory, coming from two runs down in

the sixth to beat Akron 5-3 Friday night at Canal Park. Mike

Nickeas provided the go-ahead blow with a two-run homer to

left, which vaulted Binghamton to a 3-2 lead. Nickeas was the

offensive star with three hits in four trips to the plate. Mike

Antonini notched the win despite tying a season-high with

three walks. The southpaw limited the Aeros to two runs on

five hits over 5.1 innings. Alex White was as good, if not better,

than Antonini, tossing six innings. However, his defense

failed him, leading to three unearned runs in the third, resulting

in his fourth loss. Binghamton’s bullpen loomed large,

tossing the final 3.2 innings while allowing one run. Emary

Frederick bailed Eddie Kunz out of a bases-loaded, two-out

situation in the seventh. Derrick Ellison worked a scoreless

eighth after Frederick allowed a leadoff double and Manuel

Alvarez tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save. Brahiam

Maldonado added a homer for the second straight game.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Mark Cohoon will make

his Double-A debut tonight after dominating the South Atlantic

League with Savannah (Low-A). He has tossed nine-inning,

complete-game shutouts in his last three starts with the Sand

Gnats. Cohoon racked up a 7-1 mark and a measly 1.30 ERA

over 13 starts (90.1 IP) with Savannah. His ERA paced the

South Atlantic League and his three shutouts are the most in

professional baseball. Cohoon was a New York-Penn League

All-Star last season with Brooklyn (SS-A) thanks to a 9-2 record

and a 2.15 ERA over 92 innings. The Mets drafted him in

the 12th round of the June 2008 draft out of North Central

Texas College.

LHP Scott Barnes gets the call for the Aeros tonight for the

middle game of the series. He walked a season-high five in his

last start June 20 at Portland, but managed to pick up the win

with five innings of one-run work with eight strikeouts. On the

year, the southpaw is 3-6 with a 5.82 ERA over 60.1 innings

with 67 strikeouts. He opened 2009 in the San Francisco

Giants system with San Jose (High-A) before being traded to

Cleveland’s system for first baseman Ryan Garko July 27. The

native of Massachusetts pitched for St. Johns University and

was drafted by the Giants in the eighth round of the 2008

draft.
