Top Mets Rookies, Top Mets Prospects, Mets base running, Frenchy Jersey... and Beltran's Progress

Top Rookies:

The following is a new list we created listing the top rookies in baseball. The list is based on long-term career outlook rather than current performance. Instead of following a traditional “prospect list” format where players are only removed after the meet the mlb definition of rookie (i.e., 45 days, etc)—during the season—players called up to the major leagues are immediately moved onto this list.

17. Ike Davis (P—NYM)

19. Jon Niese (P—NYM)

24. Jenrry Mejia (P—NYM)

37. Ruben Tejada (SS—NYM)  -  link

Top Prospects:

The following is our major mid-season update to our top 100 prospect list. The players in the major leagues as of June 19, 2010 have been removed, resulting in a massive exodus of talent from the list. We will create a subsequent list listing the top 25 rookies consisting of players in the major leagues. The additions to the current list consist of recently-drafted players (who will be removed if they fail to sign), and other minor leaguers performing well this season.

66.Wilmer Flores (SS—NYM)

75.Reese Havens (2B—NYM)

100.Fernando Martinez (OF—NYM)  -  link

Mets Baserunning:

Last week, we looked at how teams compare across the base running spectrum. I promised I'd take a closer look at several requested teams, and this is the result:  - link

Frenchy Jersey:

The jersey I designed has my nickname on the back, “Frenchy,” and has little blue paw prints to resemble my favorite college team as well as my alma mater high school (Clemson and Parkview). I also got my love for the beach tied into my t-shirt design. The back of the t-shirt shows me catching a fly ball but with a beach scene background. The designs you’ll see on all of our gear is like nothing else you’ve ever seen at the Mets clubhouse store before, that’s for sure. You can check everything out at the link below…enjoy! - link

Beltran's Progress:

Beltran worked out in front of Minaya and members of the club's Major League training staff at Digital Domain Park, displaying the kind of hitting and baserunning that left Minaya convinced the outfielder is ready to make the next step in rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee, although no start date has been determined just yet. "I had not been here for a while, and we had been getting reports, but watching him, the leg seems to be getting stronger," Minaya said. "I can tell you that I'm pleased. Talking to the staff, watching him run and watching him run the bases, he was getting after it. Understanding that he is still coming off an injury, I think the progress and the work these guys have done here has been outstanding." - link
