LAST GAME: Binghamton fell for the second straight night,


dropping a 5-3 decision to Portland in the first game of the


teams’ five-game set. Sean Ratliff got the B-Mets on the


scoreboard first with a solo homer to right-center in the first


inning off Casey Kelly. Ratliff led all hitters with three hits.


Raul Reyes extended the lead to 3-1 with his fourth homer in


eight games, a solo jack to right off Kelly in the fourth. However,


Portland responded with two runs in the fifth on an RBI


triple from Che-Hsuan Lin and a sac fly from Nate Spears.


Mark Cohoon, in his second Double-A start, gave up three


runs, one earned, over five innings for no-decision. The loss


fell to Eddie Kunz who allowed a pair of runs in the seventh


after walking a man and hitting another. Nick Evans and


Reyes enjoyed two-hit performances as the B-Mets outhit


Portland 10-6 in the losing effort. Mitch Herold notched the


win with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and Bryce Cox recorded


his 10th save, tossing the final two innings.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP GAME 1: RHP Chris Schwinden


will make his seventh start of the year for Binghamton. He has


garnered decision in all eight of his outings this season, including


his last, a relief appearance following Jenrry Mejia’s


start June 27 at Akron. Schwinden hurled five innings of tworun


relief to pick up the win. He is 3-5 with a 5.35 ERA over


38.2 innings. He was named a 2010 Florida State League Mid


-Season All-Star after his promotion to Double-A. Schwinden


opened the year with St. Lucie (High-A) and went 3-0 with a


1.83 ERA over 34.1 innings. He spent most of 2009 with


Savannah (Low-A) where he was 9-6 with a 3.28 ERA over


115.1 innings. Schwinden was the Mets’ 22nd round selection


in the June 2008 draft out of Fresno Pacific University..


RHP Alex Wilson gets the call for the Sea Dogs in Game 1 of


the twin bill. The righty fired 5.2 innings and allowed three


runs on seven hits at New Britain in his last start, June 27,


but did not factor in the decision. Wilson is 0-1 with a 6.28


ERA over three starts with Portland (14.1 IP). With Salem


(High-A) to open the year, he went 2-1 with a 3.40 ERA over


11 starts spanning 55.2 innings. Wilson was Boston’s second


round pick in the June 2009 draft out of Texas A&M.



STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP GAME 2: RHP Scott Shaw will


start the nightcap of the doubleheader for the B-Mets. The


right-hander made a spot-start June 19 against Trenton and


offered up four innings of three-run work. As a starter, he is 4-


4 with an 8.42 ERA, tossing 51.1 innings over 11 starts. Shaw


led St. Lucie (High-A) last season in numerous categories,


including starts (26), innings (149.2), wins (8) and strikeouts


(118). The righty was drafted by the Mets in the 13th round of


the June 2008 draft out of the University of Illinois
