7-29 from: - link - Mets LF Jason Bay sat out Wednesday night for a second straight game with a concussion suffered running into the bullpen gate at Dodger Stadium to make a catch last week. Bay, who has been suffering from “dull headaches” since the flight home from Los Angeles, was feeling “a little better” Wednesday, according to manager Jerry Manuel. However, Manuel indicated that Bay had not made any significant improvement. Manuel indicated that if Bay hasn’t made significant progress by Friday, the end of the 72-hour window after the concussion was diagnosed Tuesday, there’s a good chance he will be placed on the DL.
7-29 from: - link - You can’t talk about the Mets these days without speculating on who their next manager will be. To his credit, Manuel is acceptant of the scrutiny, telling reporters before the game, “I think when you go through these things…you have to look at the manager. That’s part of being in New York.” Guess who’s most directly impacted by these words? It’s not Bobby Valentine, who’ll never be re-hired by the Mets as long as the Wilpons own the team. It’s Wally Backman, who has a realistic chance to be at Citi Field by Opening Day 2011 and wants the job so badly he’s practically bursting.
7-28 from: - link - 1B – The 32-year-old Mets farmhand is the consummate AAAA player. He’s homered 20 times in a season in 11 of his 15 years, but has also fanned 100 times in 11 campaigns – easily fitting in where Davis left off. Hessman has 329 minor league homers and has gone deep 13 times in 168 major league at-bats. He is batting .279 with 18 homers and 58 RBI in 63 games for Buffalo.
7-13 from: - link - Another impressive Pac-10 product (Cal), Satin has continued to hit his way through the Mets system, one level at a time. Without the raw tools of fellow '08 draftees Havens or Nieuwenhuis, Satin has had to prove himself at each stop and hasn't disappointed. For the second straight year, Satin started the season on fire posting a .343 AVG for the month of May with four home runs (.362 April in '09). Not only did he make the FSL All-Star Game, he won the game MVP. Soon after he was promoted to Binghamton and he's continued to do more of the same, hitting for good average with solid plate discipline and decent pop. His numbers haven't jumped up like Havens but the fact that he's maintained them at Double-A is the key factor here. Satin doesn't have any one skill that jumps out at you but he does everything well, with the exception of speed. Different story on the defensive side where he isn't as strong and probably doesn't profile as an everyday major league second baseman. However, it's his bat that will need to continue carrying him, possibly into a long-term role as a solid offensive-minded utility man.
7-28 from: - link - If we were doing a Top 100 Prospects list now, Flores would rank around 50. I know he struggled last year in low A, but he was also 17. He has a chance to have a very good bat down the road. He's not going to be a shortstop, and he may be more of an outfielder than a third baseman, but he'll have enough bat wherever he winds up.
