Tonight: The Gnats and the Greenville Drive play the rubber game in their five-game series after splitting the first four. The Gnats return home to take on the Rome Braves on Sunday, July 4th, at 6:05 pm with a special Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular following the game. Land Shark Landing, a three-level deck along the right field line, the newest addition to Historic Grayson Stadium, will open to fans for the first time on Sunday.

Last Night: The Drive used three home runs to score six times against starter Darin Gorski in the first three innings on their way to an 8-3 win. CF Pedro Zapata was 3-4 with his 14th double of the year. SS Wilfredo Tovar chipped in two hits from the bottom of the order.

Taylor Whitenton will make his seventh start of the year this evening. Last time out, in his first start since May 25, Whitenton held the Asheville Tourists to two runs on four hits in five innings. However, Savannah was shutout by Chris Balcom-Miller in a 2-0 loss. The Gnats are 2-4 when Whitenton starts and have supported him with 3.50 runs per game, the second-lowest support of Gnats’ starter. Whitenton threw five scoreless innings over four games in the Gulf Coast League in 2009, striking out seven, walking five and yielding just one hit. The Mets drafted Whitenton in the 39th round of the 2009 draft out of Darton (GA) College.

Wilfredo Tovar was 2-4 last night with a double, his second-straight multi-hit game with a double. Tovar is hitting .400 (4-for-10) in the three games against Greenville. In his first nine games with Savannah, the 18-year-old Tovar is hitting .393/.469/.464 with two doubles, three walks and just one strikeout.

After a 4-4 game on Thursday, 1B Travis Ozga has hit safely in four straight games and five of his six games as a Sand Gnat. In his last four games, Ozga is hitting .583 (7-for-12). Ozga played in one game for rookie-level Kingsport in the Appalachian League where he was 2-4 with a double and a home run on June 22.

Vs. Greenville: The Gnats are 2-2 against Greenville this year. The teams will play two five-game series, one in Greenville, and one in Savannah, July 14-18. The Gnats are 18-18 against the Drive since becoming a Mets affiliate before the 2007 season.

Jet Butler made his Savannah debut last night with a 1-3 performance that included a walk. The Mets drafted Butler in the 26th round of this June’s draft out of Mississippi State where he hit .329/.379/.487 as a senior in 2010 for the Bulldogs
